<p> Wrekin Shotokan Newsletter October 2009</p><p>World Championships - Congratulations To all those club members (and our supporters!) who competed as members of the UK squad in Athens in July – everyone performed exceptionally well and we as a club should be very proud indeed. For the record, SKKIF team UK gained medals in 3 events:  Boys kumite age 16 -17 years: Reza (Watford) 1st place, GOLD medal  Veterans Team Kata, age 150+ years: 2nd Place, SiLVER (Tony Atherden, Wrekin; Lucy Marsh, Lytham St. Annes; Kevin Leigh, Watford)  Masters Kumite: 3rd place BRONZE medal: Tony Atherden, Wrekin. </p><p>Clare Harnell (Wrekin) just missed out on a medal, gaining 4th place in the girls kata event, in the 18-19 age group. Clare is now away at University, but still training 3 times a week with the Birmingham University squad. Good luck Clare. </p><p>Training Courses:</p><p> Thursday 8 th October (Shiomitsu sensei, Windsor dojo) </p><p> Saturday 10 th October (Carpenter sensei, Wrekin College)</p><p> Sunday 11 th October, Brown & Black Belts, Blackpool dojo</p><p> Saturday 17 th October, Launceston, Cornwall (Course and Grading: sensei Carpenter and SKKIF senior instructors)</p><p> Weekend 24+25 th October, Stirling, Scotland. Karate + Bo- jitsu course: senseis Carpenter 7th dan, Jim Palmer 6th dan(Scotland), and teaching the Bo katas: sensei Seamus O’Dowd 5th dan (Ireland)</p><p>Kanazawa sensei</p><p>Weekend 14+15 November, Kanazawa kancho with his son Daizo Kanazawa, course and grading, Windsor.</p><p>PS.
