Neighbor of the Year Award

Neighbor of the Year Award

2012

Neighbor of the Year Application Neighbor of the Year Award

The Ohio Farm Bureau Federation (OFBF) and the Ohio Livestock Coalition (OLC) are sponsoring two, state awards titled Neighbor of the Year Award (one for a non-farmer resident and one for a livestock farmer). This is to recognize the effort neighbors have made in Ohio's countryside to positively develop and enhance rural relations and communication.

Purpose:

The purpose of this award is to recognize rural residents - farmers and non-farmers - who have exceeded minimum standards as described in the OLC's It Takes Two to be a Good Neighbor fact sheet. Being a good neighbor means being responsible, courteous and respectful of others. Being respectful of private property and the need for farmers to safeguard their business help preserve the rural landscape that everyone enjoys. Both farmers and non-farmers should take the initiative to get to know their neighbors. Knowing your neighbors and letting them get to know you will speed-up the new relationships you will be building. This is a win/win situation for both farmers and non-farmers.

Qualifications:

Rural Resident Candidate 1. Abide by the code of practices for rural residents/country dwellers.

Livestock Farmer Candidate 1. Must be a livestock (dairy, beef, sheep, swine or poultry) producer. 2. Preferred, but not required, to have participated in the Livestock Environmental Assurance Program (LEAP). 3. Abide by the code of practices for farmers.

Nomination Process:

1. OFBF will notify County Farm Bureaus of the request for nominations. County Farm Bureaus will notify members of the request for nominations via county Farm Bureau newsletter and/or other appropriate means. 2. Farm Bureau members and OLC members submit nominations by July 2, 2012. 3. Selection committee reviews the nominations and selects the winners. 4. The winners are recognized at the OLC Annual Meeting/Industry Symposium on September 7, 2012.

Recognition

1. Each state winner (2) will receive a plaque and $250 donation made to each recipient’s favorite local charity.
