Navigate through the Autism Speaks website and follow the directions provided in each section below. Each question must be answered. You are required to turn in one handout per group by the end of the period. This assignment will be grades.</p><p>1. Visit the Autism Speaks website by typing (copying and pasting or clicking) in the following URL: http://www.autismspeaks.org </p><p>2. Click on “About Us” at the top of the page and answer the following:</p><p> a. When was Autism Speaks founded?</p><p> b. Who founded Autism Speaks and why?</p><p>3. Click on “Founder’s Message” on the left side of the page and answer the following:</p><p> a. According to the founders of Autism Speaks, how many children are diagnosed with Autism in America?</p><p> b. How many states have enacted Autism insurance laws?</p><p> c. How is President Obama supporting the fight against Autism?</p><p>4. Click on “Mission” on the left side of the page, do not neglect to investigate the “Values” section, and answer the following:</p><p> a. Explain the mission of Autism Speaks.</p><p>5. Click on “What is Autism?” at the top of the page and answer the following:</p><p> a. Define autism spectrum disorders.</p><p> b. What causes autism?</p><p> c. Are there any underlying biological mechanisms of autism? If so, what are they?</p><p>6. Click on “Diagnosis” on the left side of the page and answer the following:</p><p> a. How do we know if someone has autism?</p><p>7. Click on “Treatment” on the left side of the page, feel free to navigate through treatment options that appear, and answer the following:</p><p> a. How can we help someone with autism? Identify at least two ways to provide treatment. 8. Click on “Your Child’s Rights” on the left side of the page and answer the following:</p><p> a. What is a “Free and Appropriate Public Education?”</p><p> b. What is “Least Restrictive Environment?”</p><p> c. Describe at least one other basic right of a child with autism.</p>
