Giuliano Palagi on the “East Coast” to link Pisa and Delaware

Province of Pisa CEO invited by Delaware Authorities from 16th to 21th January

“ A wonderful and profitable experience”: these were Giuliano Palagi’s words about his visit to Delaware. Mr. Palagi was invited by both Delaware University and Delaware House of Representatives officials, as well as by the local Italian-American community. Delaware, although a small state, has a great importance in the U.S.A.: it is also known as “The First State”, because was the first one to ratify the U.S. Constitution on the 7th December 1787. In Delaware, the services network level is quite high and it has become a favourite location for many multinational companies. Mr. Palagi’s program was quite full. On the 17th, he met officials of Delaware Italian-American community. The links to Italy are so strong that Delaware Parliament has created a “Commission on Italian Heritage and Culture”. After a call at “Lovetown”, nickname of Philadelphia (Pa) on the 18th, the following day Mr Palagi visited the Campus of Delaware University, accompanied by Dr. Fred DeMicco, Professor for the department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management. The University of Delaware, situated in Newark (De), has a great tradition of excellence: founded as a small private academy in 1743, today is a research-intensive, technologically advanced institution. The University has recently celebrated the new Vice President Joe Biden, one of the many “UD” alumni who have distinguished themselves with their careers. Mr. Palagi visited the Chancellor Office, the Morris Library, one of the largest University libraries in East U.S.A., and the colleges of Engineering, Chemistry, Economics and Tourism Management. This last one, considered one of the best U.S.A. tourism university courses, is sponsored by the Marriott Hotels. Mr. Palagi and Dr. DeMicco agreed to promote a management partnership regarding both Province of Pisa and Delaware. The partnership should involve not only Pisa and Delaware Universities but also other public and private structures belonging to the “First State” and to Tuscany. On the same day, Mr. Palagi met Sen. Harris McDowell III, one of the “veterans” in Delaware Senate and a strong Kennedy supporter during his presidency. On the 20th January, Mr. Palagi and Sen. McDowell attended at Barack Obama swear in Washington DC and, in the evening, together with representatives of both Delaware and Pennsylvania States, took part at the “Biden Home States Ball”. They all greeted Obama and Joe Biden, who showed up with their respective wives. Mr. Palagi considers his visit to Delaware quite important, not only as a personal experience but, overall, beacuse it could bring for both Province of Pisa and Delaware the development of new business and culture opportunities.
