<p> February Infant/Toddler Activities </p><p>Paper Plate Heart Wreaths- Cut out the center of a paper plate to form the base of the wreath. Allow young children to glue construction paper hearts to cover the paper plate. Older toddlers can cut out the hearts or pre-cut shapes can be used. You may add a bow to decorate and yarn to hang the wreath.</p><p>Sponge Heart Valentines- Cut sponges into heart shapes. Allow young children to dip the sponges into paint and to stamp construction paper to make Valentine cards.</p><p>Family Handprints- Parent Involvement Activity Send home several sheets of construction paper. Ask parents to help children trace each family member’s hand. Ask parents to ask the children why each family member is special. Parents are to write the responses on the hand tracings. When children bring the hands back to class-punch holes at the top and bottom of each hand and tie them together to form a long chain of handprints.</p><p>Learning Colors-Valentine’s Day Chocolate Box Glue colored paper circles to bottom of box. Coordinate colored pieces of felt. Allow the children to match the colors. The children may also be involved in making the colored circles to glue down to the box. Fun Valentine’s Game.</p><p>Valentine Flowers- Allow children to color template pieces of hearts and stems (attached). Allow children to glue the pieces on a small sheet of poster board or cardstock.</p><p>Discuss Martin Luther King’s Contributions- Using simple language, discuss that Martin Luther King was a fine man who wished for everyone to love each other and he was a great leader who taught people from different places to learn about one another and appreciate each other’s differences. Coloring sheet options-attached.</p><p>Discuss Love and Kindness- Ask the children to describe ways to show love for one another and to share with the class- names of people that they love.
