Stalls must be cleaned if you are departing on Saturday evening.

Note from the Superintendent: I thought combining our ILR show with the ALSA NW Regional last year was a success but ALSA had other ideas and now a Regional cannot be held with another show – oh well, it is their loss! New Things – #1 Fiber! OFFF stopped doing a raw fiber (bagged fleece) competition a couple years ago. We are adding a shorn fleece competition for llama fiber so enter your fleeces. On Saturday, our fiber judge will be available to do a fleece-on evaluation of your animals. In addition, we want to use OFFF as an opportunity to talk with the public about llamas and sell llama fleeces to spinners. We will have a llama information display and a space to display shorn fleeces that are for sale. Remember, spinners what to spin, not pick hay bits and pine needles out of the fiber and then spin – the cleaner it is, the more likely a spinner will take it home with them. #2 Youth! WVLA is providing prize money for two youth classes – the annual costume competition and a “made from my llama” fiber project. Competition was strong in the costume competition last year so start working now on that prize winning costume! Additional information about the fiber project can be found at www.KoenigLlamas.com/OFFF.asp. Halter is on SATURDAY, and Performance is on SUNDAY. Driving classes will start us off on Sunday morning so bring your driving llama and cart! I have tried to reduce all prices so that means we need additional entries to stay in the black! Please e-mail questions to me at [email protected] as they come up and I’ll do my best to get back to you quickly. Thank you for your interest and support of the Oregon Flock & Fiber Festival ILR Llama Show! I look forward to seeing you in Canby! Hal

Diamond Award Best of Show Sponsored by the Oregon Flock & Fiber Festival Diamond Trophy

Thanks Brandy! We appreciate your support of our ILR show at OFFF!

WVLA is Sponsoring 2 Great Youth Opportunities!! First, youth should make something with their llama’s fiber. Spin it into yarn then knit, crochet or weave it, dye it different colors and felt it – the sky’s the limit! WVLA will provide cash prize. See the WVLA document at www.KoenigLlamas.com/OFFF.asp for more details. Second, the annual costume competition, held around lunch on Sunday, is also being sponsored by WVLA. Cash prizes will be awarded! Start working on your costume now. 2 Please say “THANKS!” to any WVLA Board members you know! 2011 OFFF CLASS SCHEDULE Saturday September 24th, 2011 8:30 am Exhibitors meeting, 9:00 am Halter Classes Suri Wool Female Llama (09) Suri Wool Male Llama (continued) Class: 05 Juvenile Class: 32 Two-year old Class: 06 Yearling Class: 33 Mature Class: 07 Two-year old Silky Wool Male Llama (39) Class: 08 Mature Class: 35 Juvenile Silky Wool Female Llama (14) Class: 36 Yearling Class: 10 Juvenile Class: 37 Two-year old Class: 11 Yearling Class: 38 Mature Class: 12 Two-year old Classic Male Llama (44) Class: 13 Mature Class: 40 Juvenile Classic Female Llama (19) Class: 41 Yearling Class: 15 Juvenile Class: 42 Two-year old Class: 16 Yearling Class: 43 Mature Class: 17 Two-year old Light/Medium Wool Male Llama (49) Class: 18 Mature Class: 45 Juvenile Light/Medium Wool Female Llama (24) Class: 46 Yearling Class: 20 Juvenile Class: 47 Two-year old Class: 21 Yearling Class: 48 Mature Class: 22 Two-year old Heavy Wool Male Llama (54) Class: 23 Mature Class: 50 Juvenile Heavy Wool Female Llama (29) Class: 51 Yearling Class: 25 Juvenile Class: 52 Two-year old Class: 26 Yearling Class: 53 Mature Class: 27 Two-year old OFFF Diamond Award – Best of Show Class: 28 Mature Group Classes Suri Wool Male Llama (34) Class: 55 Get of Sire Class: 30 Juvenile Class: 56 Produce of Dam Class: 31 Yearling

Sunday, September 25th 8:00 am Exhibitors meeting NOTE TIME!! No ranch, personal, animal, or organizational name, logo or insignia shall be displayed on the exhibitor or animal during the class. Nursing llamas cannot be accompanied in the ring by their babies. Show mgmt. recommends not showing nursing mothers. The Judge may dismiss animals exhibiting unruly or unsafe behavior from the ring. Dismissal can take place even before the animal enters the ring if show personnel bring the matter to the Judge’s attention. The Judge may dismiss an exhibitor and their animal from any class if the exhibitor mistreats their animal. Show management may dismiss an exhibitor and their animal from participation at the show if the exhibitor mistreats their animal. Llamas may not be moved from one class to another after halter judging has begun, except at the Judge’s discretion. Youth between the ages of 8 through 18 may show intact males. It is recommended that youth under 8 years of age not show intact males and youth between the ages of 7 to 12 years not show intact males over 18 months of age. Handler attire should be conservative, neat and appropriate for the class. Shoes should be appropriate for the show ring (open toed shoes, sandals and bare feet will disqualify the exhibitor). Suggested attire is dark pants or skirt and white shirt or blouse. Exhibitors shall not knowingly exhibit animals in any class, which, in their opinion, exhibit unsoundness. Exhibitors are responsible for following the progress of the show and shall be at ringside ten minutes before their class is called. An exhibitor shall not knowingly show where there is a conflict of interest with the Judge. The burden of responsibility is with the owner, exhibitor or trainer to recognize a conflict of interest. PERFORMANCE CLASSES Llamas are to be entered in the division for which they are eligible at the time of the show. Halter class rules also apply. Classes are open to any llama five months of age or over, except if otherwise specified in the class requirements. Alpacas may be entered and compete in performance and showmanship classes with the llamas.

5 A llama may be entered in only one performance division. It is the exhibitors’ responsibility to enter the correct division. Llamas must make an attempt at each obstacle, otherwise it will be counted as “off course.” In the novice and advanced classes, llamas must make only one attempt at each obstacle. If obstacle is not completed, they will be judged accordingly and then go on to the next obstacle. A llama or handler going off-course cannot place over an animal that completed the course. Coaching from the sidelines by spectators is discouraged and may compromise the exhibitor’s scoring or result in their disqualification. After refusals at three obstacles, it will then be mandatory for the Judge to dismiss the exhibitor from the course. This procedure is not to be used in Youth classes without prior agreement of show management and explanation to the exhibitors. In obstacle classes, it is at the Judge’s discretion whether the handler must negotiate the obstacles. Only voice and hand commands may be used in exhibiting animals. No written notes may be used in performance classes. Exhibitors may request the Judge provide a review of their individual score cards. Scorecards may not be reviewed without the permission of the Judge. All score sheets should remain the property of the Judge and only interpreted by the Judge with exhibitors on an individual basis. SHOW SUGGESTIONS Both handler and animal should be neatly groomed and attired. When in the show ring, do not talk with ring personnel or other handlers unless required. Concentrate on showing your animal to its best ability. Your animal can be more easily evaluated if it leads well and stands quietly. Encourage your animal to defecate before entering the ring. Watch closely for instructions from the Ring Steward or Judge. Be ready to show your animal’s number to the Ring Steward or Judge when necessary. CLASS DESCRIPTIONS HALTER CLASSES Breeding Llamas Wool Division Descriptions: Light Wool: Minimal body wool, short neck wool with smooth head, ears and legs. Medium Wool: Moderate to long body wool, minimal to moderate neck wool, smooth to moderate head and leg wool. Heavy Wool: Abundant body and neck wool, and minimal to abundant head and leg wool (i.e., leg wool at least to knee and hock). Classic Llamas: double coat with prominent, abundant guard hair throughout coat, on the body (except juveniles and yearlings), undercoat has moderate to sparse density and is either minimally or not at all visible under the guard hair, very short smooth fiber on the face, ears, forehead and head, short leg fiber above the knee or hock and short smooth or minimally ruffled hair below the knee or hock, a large “window” of short, smooth hair on either side of their sternum, and neck fiber that often sheds out leaving a discernable guard hair “mane.” Age Division Descriptions: Juvenile: 5 months up to less than 12 months. Yearling: 12 to less than 24 months. Two-Year old: 24 months to less than 36 months, Mature: 36 months and older NOTE: On a llama’s birthday, the llama moves up to the next older class Non-Breeding Llamas These classes are for geldings, vasectomized males, and spayed or non-reproductive females. There are no sex or wool divisions. Rule: a registration or veterinarian certificate verifying status must accompany these llamas. Age Divisions: same as other halter classes but no juvenile class is available. Get of Sire: Each entry must include three offspring by the same sire out of at least two different dams. All animals included in the Get must first be shown in their appropriate halter class age division. While the entry is in the sire’s name, and awards recognize the sire, the sire is not shown in the class. Rules: The three animals that comprise the get may be decided after halter classes but must be listed with the clerk before this class is held. If the Exhibitor(s) is (are) not the sire’s owner,

6 they must have written permission of the sire’s owner to enter the stud in this class.

Produce of Dam: Each entry must include two offspring by the same dam. All produce must be shown in their appropriate halter class age division. While the entry is in the dam’s name, and awards recognize the dam, the dam is not shown in this class. Rules: The two animals that comprise the produce may be decided after halter classes but must be listed with the clerk before this class is held. If the Exhibitor(s) is (are) not the dam’s owner, they must have written permission of the dam’s owner.

PERFORMANCE CLASSES Obstacle, Public Relations and Pack Classes The purpose of these classes is to demonstrate the well-trained animal’s obedience and willingness to complete the activities requested by the handler. YOUTH CLASSES Age Categories (youth’s age is based on their age on 1/1/2011 except youth whose 7th birthday occurred between 1/2/11 and 9/24/11): Junior: 7 years through 11 years Intermediate: 12 years through 14 years. Senior: 15 years thru 18 years Showmanship Classes A Showmanship class is a demonstration of the handler’s ability to show his/her animal to its best advantage at halter. Judging is based on the exhibitor’s basic skills in fitting, grooming, following directions, and style of presenting the animal to the Judge for evaluation. The animal’s conformation is not to be considered. Handler’s attire should be neat, clean, and appropriate for the class.

Costume Class This is a non-ILR class where the llama, and typically the handler, are dressed in costume. Recognizing that most llamas do not like things touching their head and legs, the handler earns “extra points” for having a costume that requires the llama to accept decorations/costume parts that cover/touch these areas.

FLEECE COMPETITIONS Find details in the word document at www.KoenigLlamas.com/OFFF.asp. This has information about the different types of fleeces as well as guidelines for getting the fleece ready. As an added bonus to our already great show and venue, we are offering the opportunity for you to sell fleeces at the show this year. We will have information up around the fairgrounds during the festival and will try to advertise on various venues prior. In order to keep things simple for everyone involved, we have directions below for entering. You will also be asked to fill out a Llama Fleece Sale Information Form to go with your fleece.

Everything you need to know to enter the sale: • The cost for selling your llama fleece is $5.00 per fleece or roving bump. The price you chose for each fleece or bump is up to you. Just remember that volunteers are running this booth and we need to keep things simple for them. • The sale is ONLY for llama raw fleece or roving. Please do not sell by the ounce or any other form that requires weighing or additional work for the volunteers. • Your fleece should be in a clear bag and be easily seen, touched and viewed. PLEASE put a note card in your bag with your information and color of the fleece. This will help to avoid any mix-ups or customers trying to make cheaper deals by switching the tags from one bag to another. • Fleeces will be weighed on site to verify your weight. If you do not have the ability to weigh it at home, don’t worry (-: • There will be no refunds of the $5 per fiber product charge for unsold products. • Remember this is our first attempt at selling and there will be glitches. Please be patient with us!!!! • We will need volunteers to staff the sale area and take shifts. Please contact Niki Kuklenski to schedule this ([email protected], 360-592-2603).

The process for entering a fleece is: 1. Fill out a Llama Fleece Sale Information Form for each fleece or roving. Remember to include ribbons the fiber has won and any other information about this fleece or roving. A photo of the animal will help sell the fleece. 2. Put fleece, products or roving in a clear MARKED (your name or farm name works) bag. Include a note card in the bag with your contact information, color of fleece, etc. It may seem like a lot, but we are trying to avoid mix ups or thefts. 3. Photocopy your Llama Fleece Sale Information Form page for yourself and provide two copies when you drop off the fleece. If your product sells, we will staple your check or cash to it and that will be your sales receipt. The other copy will go with the fleece so the customer who buys it has some background information about the fleece.

10 2011 OFFF ILR REGISTRATION SUMMARY FORM

Farm Displays OFFF rules require that llama show participants must pay for a vendor space if ANY products other than livestock are being sold.
