Achieving the Look of Film with Video

<p>91872 Achieving the Look of Film with Video Presenter: Jonathan Ficcadenti Mentor: Elizabeth Cane</p><p>With the recent availability of affordable digital production tools to the average consumer, the possibilities for the student filmmaker have grown exponentially. Today, a student can execute a range of narratives and production techniques which before were impractical or impossible. However, despite being cost effective and flexible, standard definition digital video still can not rival the clarity and dynamic range of 35mm film emulsion. The image of digital video is often associated with low-budget reality television, infomercials, and poorly shot home movies. My research, which has been applied to my short film project, has given way to several practical techniques that can help maximize the production value of a student film without exceeding the budget. My findings emphasize the capabilities of computers, and how integration of post production software can maximize the desired look or effect.</p>
