<p> Name ______Class ______Imperialism Current Events</p><p>Directions: Your task is to find one current events article or political cartoon that relates to the Age of Imperialism, and is an example of imperialism and expansion today. There are many places in the world today where the United States attempts to have control or influence in other nations. Many of these experiences relate directly back to the turn of the 20th century when America began to take control on the world stage.</p><p>Your Task:  Find an article or political cartoon that shows imperialism today  Attach the article to a separate sheet of paper  On that separate sheet include your name, the article title, article date, article source and a paragraph summary of the article  The paragraph must include a summary of the article’s main points and an explanation of why it relates to our unit on Imperialism. (the paragraph summary should be 7-10 sentences)</p><p>There are many places around the world today where America attempts to maintain control and influence, in a similar fashion to imperialism. Some examples include:</p><p>-Conflict in the Middle East -The U.S. and Israel -The U.S. and the Middle East </p><p>-The U.S. and China -Issues with Latin American nations -Africa?</p><p>There are many other examples of the United States exerting influence around the world. (Many new events happen every week!) These suggestions might point you in the right direction, however.</p><p>Grading  This assignment will count as two homework assignments (8 points), and will be graded based on how well you accomplish the task listed above. </p><p>Sources  There are many sources you can use to find an article. Newspapers are a great source (Rochester D&C, USA Today…etc). There are many online news sources as well (ABCNews, CNN…etc). There are also many great magazines with articles (Newsweek, Time Magazine…etc). If you have difficulty finding sources be sure to ask me for help before the article summary is due so that I may help you.   The date for your article must be from within the past month (the last 30 days)!</p><p>The article and the summary will be due on ______</p>
