<p> POSITION DESCRIPTION</p><p>Division Dean, Intra-American Studies and Social Sciences </p><p>The Division Dean reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and is responsible for and provides academic and administrative leadership to the division, including academic planning, curriculum evaluation and development, program evaluation, outcomes assessment, budgeting and resource allocation, staffing, preparation of quarterly and annual class schedules, and faculty evaluations. The Intra-American Studies and Social Sciences Division includes the academic disciplines of: Ethnic Studies (Native American, Asian, African, Latino/a, Multicultural Studies, and Ethnomusicology), Women’s Studies, American Sign Language, Anthropology, Economics, Education (AAAS degree), Geography, History (U.S., Northwest, Canadian, World, East Asia), International Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology. The Division also includes three professional/technical programs: Speech/Language Pathology Assistant (AAAS degree and Certificate of Proficiency), Criminal Justice (AAAS degree) and Education with AAAS degrees offered in Special Education, Bilingual/Bicultural Education, and Early Childhood Education. Other professional/technical programs include Paraeducator, Day Care Preschool Administration, Child Development Association (CDA), In-Home Care Provider (Certificate of Proficiency). The Parent Education Program is also part of the Division. The dean will be assisted by three assistant division chairs equaling no more than one FTEF; it’s anticipated that one of the assistants will be assigned to Parent Education, but final assignment of assistants will be determined by the Vice President for Academic Affairs in consultation with the Division Dean and faculty. The Division Dean contributes to the College’s instructional efforts in such areas as curriculum reform in general education and multiculturalism and its institutional goals related to diversity, excellence and leadership.</p><p>Primary Duties and Responsibilities Include:</p><p> Provide leadership for curriculum enhancement and outcomes assessment of all disciplines and programs within the division.  Provide leadership for inter-divisional efforts in multicultural, interdisciplinary and integrated studies which are essential for the College’s general education program.  Fill the role prescribed in Policy 4111 in recruiting, interviewing and recommending for hire full-time faculty; hire part-time faculty and all support staff.  Supervise all faculty and staff; assign faculty workloads in the Division within the policies of the College; see that evaluation of faculty and staff is carried out according to College policies.  Orient and mentor new staff and faculty and provide leadership for faculty and staff development that will support the goals of the Division and College.  Provide leadership for development of quarterly and annual schedule of classes that addresses the needs of students as they pursue degree and certificate programs and utilizes effectively the expertise of the faculty, available facilities and instructional equipment.</p><p>SHORELINE COMMUNITY COLLEGE  Manage the Division’s budgets; oversee the ordering and maintenance of equipment and supplies for the Division.  Assist in planning of new facilities and instructional spaces and the maintenance and repair of existing facilities.  Oversee the revision of master course outlines and quarterly class syllabi and the updating of course descriptions and degree requirements for use in the College catalog.  Oversee the process for developing new degree and certificate programs to meet labor market demands and community needs.  Work in collaboration with the program advisory committee and faculty to recommend new programs, or to recommend programs be placed in inactive status when external review process determines that such training no longer meets labor market demands.  Work collaboratively with the vice presidents, fellow division chairs, and directors on such matters as advising, assessment, procuring library/media equipment and materials, access to instructional computing resources, international study abroad programs, offering learning communities and joint courses sharing faculty between two divisions and promoting the Division’s programs.  Lead division and discipline meetings so that faculty have full participation in such matters as curriculum development, schedule development, equipment priorities, and special events; provide leadership for working with the Division’s three citizen advisory committees, i.e. Parent Advisory Council, Criminal Justice Advisory Committee, and Education Advisory Committee.  Teach to the extent deemed desirable and possible by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the College President.  Represent the Division to various College committees, in the community, professional organizations and to other colleges and universities.  Work in collaboration with professional/technical Education program advisory committee members, hired consultants and professional/technical faculty to participate in the External Program Review process which occurs in a three-year cycle.  Seek partnerships with business and industry, agencies and/or other colleges to develop innovative programs.  Perform additional duties as designated by the President or the Vice President for Academic Affairs.</p><p>12/00 (rev 6/02)</p><p>SHORELINE COMMUNITY COLLEGE</p>
