
<p> Projects for The Odyssey ~ Pick a Grade!</p><p>Have you ever wished you had more choice in your assignments? Well, here you go. You may select any of the projects below to show your mastery of The Odyssey. The projects marked with an A have a chance of scoring up to a 100 as a major test grade. Those marked with B can get a maximum of 89. The C projects cannot score above a 79. Choose wisely, and be careful what you wish for!</p><p>PROJECTS WORTH AN “A” (maximum 100%)</p><p>Video or computer game: Think of the adventure video/computer games that have been created. Select one that features a hero on a journey full of dangers. Imagine a video/computer game based on The Odyssey. In an essay, describe in detail the actual video/computer game and compare it to The Odyssey. Then describe the video/computer game based on Homer’s epic that you have imagined.</p><p>Script: Select one of the episodes of The Odyssey and write a script for a film based on it. Include the following: a character list with brief descriptions a properties list (look up the word, "properties") a list of special effects a description of the set/scenery required a script, showing dialogue and sound effects</p><p>Rap: Create a rap about Odysseus’ adventures (or any one of his adventures) from the point of view of one of the following: Odysseus Telemachus Penelope Poseidon Projects for The Odyssey ~ Pick a Grade!</p><p> Zeus Athena Odysseus’ doomed crew The rap must encompass the entire journey as far as that character experienced or witnessed it. You may perform the rap live or record it. Provide lyrics to the audience.</p><p>Diary or journal: By one of the above characters, including their feelings, fears, hopes, dreams, goals, major relationships, and major events. It must span the length of the story. It must be typed and have an appropriate cover.</p><p>Mount Olympus newspaper: Create a newspaper that the Gods might have read. You will need to include popular sections just like a real newspaper: sports, world news, local news, entertainment, comics, advice column, etc. Make sure that the contents of your newspaper reflect all your knowledge of Greek mythology and The Odyssey. Your project will be graded on the amount of knowledge that you present, the creativity of your project, and all mechanics of good writing.</p><p>PROJECTS WORTH A “B” (maximum 89%)</p><p>Alphabet book: Create an alphabet book based on the story. (A is for the arrogance of General Zaroff; B is for the boat that Rainsford fell off of). It must be illustrated, colorful, and bound in some way.</p><p>Board game: Design a mythology game. Choose The Odyssey as your beginning concept. Note all the details that you want to include in the game. Write a detailed rulebook and design and produce the necessary Projects for The Odyssey ~ Pick a Grade! accessories: board, cards, dice, spinners, game pieces, etc. Your project will be graded on the amount of knowledge that you present, the creativity of your project, and all mechanics of good writing.</p><p>PROJECTS WORTH A “C” (maximum 79%)</p><p>Book jacket: Create a book jacket (11”x17”) that could be used for a hardbound edition of The Odyssey. It must contain an introductory summary, biography of the author, and an illustration.</p><p>Comic strip: Create a comic strip illustrating an important scene from The Odyssey. It should contain at least 10-15 frames and utilize color and captions. You may use PowerPoint or a similar program, or draw the cartoons yourself.</p><p>Odyssey treasure chest: Choose a container (be creative) for your project and decorate it with details that are appropriate to The Odyssey. The inside of the container should include: 1. 10 questions that could be answered by reading the story (five easy, five challenging). 2. A 10-word glossary of unfamiliar words from Odyssey with a definition and sentence. 3. Five items that depict the story in some way (ex: a vile of fake poison for Romeo and Juliet).</p>
