<p> Rough Draft</p><p>Goal Team One “By 2010 Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s student retention and graduation rates will exceed those of all regional universities in Oklahoma” 1 1. Institute a 2-year Associate Degree Program on the Weatherford Campus 1 • The program would duplicate the Associate Degree in General Education now offered on the Sayre campus. 2 i. We would not offer the specialized degree programs on the Weatherford campus. 3 ii. All GE courses on the Weatherford and Sayre campuses should be equivalent. 4 • Students not meeting the criteria for admission into the 4 year program would be admitted into the Associate Degree program, NO exceptions. 5 i. This would strengthen the 4-year program by admitting only those academically qualified. 6 ii. This would allow all students desiring to pursue a post-secondary education at Southwestern to succeed at their appropriate academic level. 7 iii. This would allow students the ability to pursue an Associate Degree at both the Weatherford and Sayre campuses. 8 iv. This is congruent with the mission of the University with respect to “fulfilling its role as a cultural and educational resource for western Oklahoma.” 9 • Students are able to move from the Associate Degree program into the 4-year program under current guidelines. 10 i. This becomes an additional incentive to excel for those students not meeting the criteria for the 4-year program but desiring to complete a 4-year degree. 11 • Additional notes: 12 i. This change is expected to be revenue neutral across both campuses. 13 1. It should not shift funds from the four year program into the two year program other than those expected with the shift in students. 14 ii. It should not cause a major shift of students, funds or resources from one campus to the other. 15 iii. It should offer a two year Associates Degree to four year program students when appropriate. 16 iv. We need to determine if we will hold graduation exercises for the Associate Degree program on the Weatherford campus. 2 2. Re-examine the remedial program offered by Southwestern Oklahoma State University. 1 • Students that meet the requirements for admission into the 4-year program, but require remediation, would be required to complete the remediation within the first 24 credit hours. If not completed they would be automatically placed in the Associate Degree program. NO exceptions. 2 • Keep ALL remediation courses in the Associate Degree program. 3 • Determine if class attendance is a major factor determining the academic outcome for remedial courses. Rough Draft</p><p>4 i. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the primary factor involved in determining success or failure in remediation courses may be attendance. 5 ii. The committee, therefore, believes a survey of remedial courses in the Fall semester is indicated to ascertain the relationship between attendance and success in remedial courses. </p>
