<p>Volunteer Role Description</p><p>Volunteers are vital to help us in our vision of ensuring that no one who has served our country should have to battle blindness alone. This role description is designed to give you clarity about what you are going to do and who will support you in it.</p><p>Life beyond sight loss St Dunstan’s since 1915 </p><p>Volunteer role title</p><p>Historical Researcher and Administrator Volunteer</p><p>Purpose of the role</p><p>To support the Information and Archives Officer in researching our rich history from the First World War onwards. The role is to assist in enabling us to enhance our own </p><p>Life beyond sight loss St Dunstan’s since 1915 </p><p> knowledge of our past and make information about it accessible on a specialist database. The results will contribute towards our centenary celebrations in 2015.</p><p>Location</p><p>Head Office, Marylebone (nearest tube stations: Edgware Road, Baker Street)</p><p>Responsible to </p><p>Information and Archives Officer</p><p>Life beyond sight loss St Dunstan’s since 1915 </p><p>Time Commitment</p><p>Ideally for a minimum 2 days per week, for a minimum of 3 months.</p><p>Key activities:</p><p> Entering details and information into the Blind Veterans UK database.</p><p> Researching elements of Blind Veterans UK’s history.</p><p>Life beyond sight loss St Dunstan’s since 1915 </p><p> Identifying the contents of photos, liaising with individuals as required to gain the necessary detail. </p><p> Researching family history enquiries.</p><p> Providing administrative support, including the transcription of audio recordings and other elements. </p><p> Other duties as required by colleagues.</p><p>Life beyond sight loss St Dunstan’s since 1915 </p><p>Skills required</p><p> Attention to detail</p><p> The ability to work independently</p><p> Interest in social, military or medical history </p><p>Life beyond sight loss St Dunstan’s since 1915 </p><p> Interest in historical research</p><p> Flexibility over working patterns</p><p>Support</p><p>We will give you regular support from your appointed manager and ensure that you receive the appropriate training and induction for you to full fill your role to your full capability.</p><p>Life beyond sight loss St Dunstan’s since 1915 </p><p>Our values</p><p>Blind Veterans UK has a set of values which as an organisation we ask all our staff and volunteers to uphold.
