A Quick Recap of the ODF Intern Program

A Quick Recap of the ODF Intern Program

A quick recap of the ODF Intern program:

What we're looking for:  The primary purpose of the program is to give students an opportunity to look at, and consider the Oregon Dept of Forestry as an employer as they complete their schooling. It also gives us an opportunity to take a look at these same students as prospective employees. In addition, it gives students a chance to make their education more meaningful by combining it with real world work experience.  Students MUST be returning to school after the summer that they work in our Intern Program. This could be for continuing their work on either their undergraduate, or graduate degrees.  We're not necessarily looking for the student with the most forestry work experience, or the best grades, but the students that have the greatest potential to become significant contributors to the Oregon Dept of Forestry, and become the future leaders of the Dept. I personally have a history of hiring a considerable number of Freshman and Sophomores, in addition to Juniors.

The positions: For the most part, the best positions for forest management students are those that are in our State Forests Management Program Here, they will be involved in a wide variety of work that could involve: reforestation surveys, timber sale layout and prep, sale administration, road layout, etc. These positions are generally in either northwest Oregon (Tillamook, Astoria, Forest Grove), or along the southern coast (Coos Bay). These are the ones that I would primarily recommend for NAU students.

Other Odds and Ends:  The website does a pretty good job of explaining the positions, etc, and from there you can go to our home page and explore ODF further.  Salary is dependent on the year in school.  Housing is not provided. The local District will assist students in connecting them with information to assist them in finding housing.

If I can answer any questions, or provide additional information, please contact me either via email or office phone (all info below).

Cliff Liedtke Eastern Oregon Area Director Oregon Department of Forestry PO Box 670 Prineville, OR 97754 541 447-5658 [email protected]
