Topics covered include: planetary gear operation, application devices, hydraulics, torque converters, diagnosis, and rebuilding of automatic transmissions/ transaxles. Also covered, will be the operation, testing, diagnosis and repair of computer- controlled transmissions/transaxles. </p><p>Required Text: Tom Birch & Chuck Rockwood, Automatic Transmissions and Transaxles, 4th Edition, Prentice Hall 2010.</p><p>Grading: Your final grade will be computed from the classroom (50%), and the lab (50%).</p><p>Cell Phones: All cell phones must be turned off during class. Please do not “text message” while in class or play games on your phone. You will receive one warning from the instructor to turn-off or put your phone away. On your second offence, you’ll be asked to leave the class and receive no credit for that day.</p><p>1 Tardiness Policy:</p><p>Every time the student is late for a classroom or lab session 10 points will be deducted from the students total possible points. Quizzes</p><p>There will be three announced quizzes. Make-up quizzes must be done within one week of your absence during the instructor's office hours. These questions and answers will be written in ink or typed (double spaced). Automatic Transmission Rebuild (3 Required) a. check endplay b. disassembly c. cleaning and inspection d. overhaul clutches e. check & adjust clutch pack clearance f. replace all seals & gaskets g. clean & inspect valve body h. disassemble, clean, inspect and check clearances on oil pump I. reassembly and adjust endplay 120 Note: One of the three required transmission rebuilds must be a FWD Transaxle. 13. Stall Test Automatic Transmission 5</p><p>14. Flush Transmission Cooler Lines 10</p><p>15. Test Transmission Cooler Flow 10 Total 257 SAFETY GLASSES MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES WHEN IN THE AUTOMOTIVE LABORATORY. IT IS THE STUDENTS RESPONSIBILITY TO HAVE HIS/HER SAFETY GLASSES ON AT ALL TIMES. IF THE STUDENT IS NOT 3 WEARING SAFETY GLASSES HE/SHE WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO STAY IN THE LABORATORY. HE/SHE WILL BE MARKED ABSENT AND WILL HAVE TO MAKE UP THE LAB OBJECTIVES. ______C. Final Grade Grading Scale: Points 1. Classroom 257 A = 514 to 462 (90%) 2.
