<p> SUMMER TERM 1 IN EYFS @ KVPS</p><p>Our topic for the first two weeks of the term is Pirates and Mermaids…</p><p>The children will: . We will be reading the story “The Singing Mermaid” by Julia Donaldson and focusing on rhyme. . Creating mermaid jewellery and composing mermaid music with percussion instruments. . We will be reading “The Night Pirates” by Peter Harris which is a Pirate tale with a twist! . Clip on You Tube - Bookaboo S01E03 The Night Pirates Michael Rosen. . We will be learning the following Pirate song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qAngsMJD3I – portside pirates . We will be making treasure maps, taking part in a treasure hunt and using simple grid references. . We will write a message in a bottle, make a pirate ship and investigate floating and sinking and how many gold coins our pirate ship can hold before it sinks. . We will be finding out why pirates have an eye patch, counting and sharing out the treasure. . We will also be discussing the rights and wrongs of stealing. . We will also be trying to answer most if not all the children’s questions! . And even walking the plank.</p><p>Our Topic for the remainder of this term will be ‘Once upon a Time’…</p><p>The children will: . We will be learning about traditional Tales. . We will be learning to tell the tales off by heart using a range of story techniques such as story maps and actions. . We will encourage the children to empathise with the characters by placing themselves in the heart of the story and imagining our reactions. . We will be deciding if Jack should have taken the Golden Egg from the Giant. . Making Wanted Posters for the wolf. . Writing letters of apology from the wolf. . Making our own Gingerbread Man . Writing instructions on how to grow a beanstalk.
