If your house is in a “Special Zone”, you are not allowed any chickens unless prior approval is made with the city. Go to the zoning website for Pleasanton, click on the area you live in. If your house is in a PUD-R-1-65 (or PUD-AG) zone, you can have up to 6 female chickens. If your house is not in a R-1-65 zone, then you are not allowed chickens unless contacting the city-zoning department. What is the purpose of “egg turning”?</p><p>6. A female bird lays one egg at a time. How do all baby birds hatch at the same time if they need to be incubated for the exactly the same amount of time?</p><p>7. As the egg travels through the female reproductive tract of a bird, when does the calcium carbonate shell get added? Why at this point? (Hint: fertilization)</p><p>8. What is the difference between Altricial and Precocial young? Which was your chick or duck hatchling?</p><p>9. What is the benefit of both types of young, altricial and precocial? </p><p>10. If your duck hatched and survived, explain the process. Was it easy to hatch, difficult? Did it move and stand up right away? Include any observation you made.</p>
