<p> CULTURAL CONSIDERATIONS IN HEALTHCARE February 22 & 23, 2016 Theme - Seeing Health: Adjust your lens The aim of our conference is to present various perspectives of healthcare and issues of health. Below are the subthemes that categorize different perspectives:  Social, public, and environmental perspective (e.g. access, media, etc.)</p><p> Place and location perspective (e.g. hospitals, schools, private spaces)</p><p> Professional perspective (e.g. nurses, doctors, social workers, etc.)</p><p> Diversity perspective (e.g. ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender identity, ability, race, etc.)</p><p> Personal perspective (e.g. family, self, significant others, food, dress, religion, etc.)</p><p>Interdisciplinary Poster Presentation February 23, 2016 3:30 – 6:00 PM Overview: The Cultural Consideration in Healthcare event will create an opportunity for students from the Division of Health Sciences to disseminate their collaborative practice work through a poster. Students, in collaboration with their community partners (internship sites, fellow students, faculty members, etc.) need to work on an abstract to reflect the theme of the conference. The abstract could highlight their work in various contexts, showcase evidence-based practice/outcomes and/lessons learned. The interdisciplinary poster session will create an opportunity for rich discussions between and among various disciplines in the Division of Health Sciences. </p><p>Abstract: Students are expected to submit an abstract of no more than 200 words to Dr. Rubin ([email protected]) by February 15, 2016 for consideration in the poster presentation session.</p><p>Review Criteria:  Clarity of the written proposal  Relevance of topic to conference theme  Appropriateness of practice model to the theme  Significance for culturally appropriate practice in healthcare contexts Award: The Review Committee will select three winners based on the review criteria listed above: 1st Place - $150.00 cash prize 2nd Place - $100.00 cash prize 3rd Place - $50.00 cash prize Poster Printing: Poster printing is available for students in the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center at @One Help Desk. The approximate cost of printing a poster is between $30 and $40. Ms. Susan Hill, at the Division of Health Sciences has some funds available to offset these costs. Dr. Menon at the School of Social Work has also allocated some funds to support the Social Work Students. Please contact Dr. Rubin if you would like to avail of the support.
