DEAN LOWRANCE</p><p>Dean Lowrance registered for the Draft in March of 1944 while still in high school in Lebanon, Missouri. He was subsequently inducted into the US Army on September 26, 1944. Dean was sworn into the Army at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis and was immediately transferred to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri for Basic Combat Training. He remained at Fort Leonard Wood for Advanced Individual Training (AIT) Heavy Equipment School. Dean was trained and qualified to drive and operate the 5-ton wrecker and tractor-trailer. </p><p>After completing AIT Dean was transferred to Camp Kilmer, New Jersey for immediate transfer to the Europe Theater of Operations. He left Camp Kilmer on March 25, 1945 on the ship Queen Elizabeth as an individual replacement and not with an assigned military unit.</p><p>Dean arrived in Scotland on April 2, 1945, where he was transported via train to South Hampton, England and then transported across the channel to LeHavre, France, where he was immediately transported via troop train to western France near Luxembourg. Dean was assigned to an engineering unit attached to the 7th Army where he participated in the Rhineland Campaign.</p><p>When the war ended in Europe, Dean was transferred to Austria near Ensbruck where his unit was part of establishing a military government in the area of operations. While in this assignment he was chosen to be reassigned to the Pacific Theater of Operations and was transferred to Marseille France in a staging area to ship out. While serving in the 1173rd Engineering Combat Group, Dean was assigned in a NCO (E-6) position and was advised he would be promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant but the war ended and his orders were never completed.</p><p>Dean was transferred back to the United States to Fort Sheridan, Illinois and was separated from active service.</p><p>Dean is retired from federal government civil service and lives with his wife Carrol, who is retired from the Missouri State Teachers Association after spending over 40 years in the capacity of both teacher and principal, at the Lake of the Ozark near Camdenton, Missouri. Dean and Carrol have two sons, Ron and Ken. Ron is employed with IBM as a Project Executive living with his family near Atlanta, Georgia. Ron is also a veteran of both the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf War and is retired from the US Army Reserve System. Ken is an Electrical Engineer, PE certified and PMP certified, employed with IBM living with his family in St.Louis County, Missouri.</p>
