From the signs of the components, we have 2 = 48° below + x-axis. (c) For the sum V1 + V2 we have V1 + V2 = – 1.5i + 3.0j. For the magnitude of V1 + V2 we have 2 2 1/2 V1 + V2 = [(– 1.5) + (3.0 ) ] = 3.4. We find the direction from tan 1+2 = (3.0 )/(– 1.5) = – 2.0. From the signs of the components, we have 1+2 = 63° above – x-axis. (d) For the difference V2 – V1 we have V2 – V1 = 10.5i – 13.0j. For the magnitude of V1 + V2 we have 2 2 1/2 V2 – V1 = [(10.5) + (– 13.0 ) ] = 16.7. We find the direction from tan 2–1 = (– 13.0 )/(10.5) = – 1.24. From the signs of the components, we have 2–1 = 51° below + x-axis. 11. The vectors are V1 = 4i – 8j, V2 = i + j, V3 = – 2i + 4j. (a) For the sum V1 + V2 + V3 we have V1 + V2 + V3 = 3i – 3j. For the magnitude of V1 + V2 + V3 we have 2 2 1/2 V1 + V2 + V3 = [(3) + (– 3 ) ] = 4.2. We find the direction from tan a = (– 3)/(3) = – 1.0. From the signs of the components, we have a = 45° below + x-axis. (b) For V1 – V2 + V3 we have V1 – V2 + V3 = i – 5j. For the magnitude of V1 – V2 + V3 we have 2 2 1/2 V1 – V2 + V3 = [(1) + (– 5 ) ] = 5.1. We find the direction from tan b = (– 5)/(1) = – 5.0. From the signs of the components, we have b = 79° below + x-axis.</p><p>17. (a) We find the x-component from 2 2 2 A = Ax + Ay ; y 2 2 2 (90.0) = Ax + (– 35.0) ; which gives Ax = ± 82.9. (b) If we call the new vector B, we have x Rx = Ax + Bx ; A y – 80.0 = + 82.9 + Bx , which gives Bx = – 162.9; A 2 A 1 Ry = Ay + By ; 0 = – 35.0 + By , which gives By = + 35.0. We find the resultant from 2 2 1/2 2 2 1/2 B = (Bx + By ) = [(– 162.9) + (+ 35.0) ] = 166.6; tan  = By/Bx = (35.0)/(162.9) = 0.215, which gives  = 12.1° above – x-axis.</p><p>22. (a) For the vertical component we have 2 2 aV = (3.80 m/s ) sin 30.0° = 1.90 m/s down. (b) Because the elevation change is the vertical displacement, we find the time from the vertical motion, taking down as the positive direction: 2 y = v0yt + ½ aVt ; 250 m = 0 + ½ (1.90 m/s2)t2, which gives t = 16.2 s. 24. Initial velocity of the particle is: v0 = 5i m/s With an acceleration of: a = (-3.0i + 4.5j) m/s2 This is similar to a projectile motion problem, except the particle arcs in the x direction instead of the y direction. We know that at the maximum x-coordinate the particle will have to turn around so the velocity in the x-direction at that moment will be 0. The time at which this occurs can then be determined. vx = v0,x + axt 0 = (5 m/s) – (3 m/s2)t, which gives t = 1.67 s Using this time we can determine the velocity and position:</p><p> vy = v0,y + ayt 2 vy = 0 + (4.5 m/s )(1.67 s) = 7.5 m/s  v = (0i + 7.5j) m/s 2 2 x = x0 + v0,xt + ½ axt and y = y0 + v0,yt + ½ ayt Setting our origin to where the particle started, (x0 = y0 = 0) x = 0 + (5 m/s)(1.67 s) + ½ (-3 m/s2)(1.67 s)2 = 4.2 m y = 0 + 0 + ½ (4.5 m/s2)(1.67 s)2 = 6.3 m r = (4.2i + 6.3j) m </p><p>26. For the vertical motion we have 2 y = y0 + v0yt + ½ ayt ; – h = 0 + 0 + ½ (– g)t2, so 2 h = ½ g(L/v0) ; 2 2 2 1.5 m = ½ (9.80 m/s )(20 m) /v0 , which gives v0 = 36 m/s (130 km/h). (b) If the ramp makes an angle 0 with the horizontal, we have x = x0 + v0xt; </p><p>L = 0 + (v0 cos 0)t, which gives t = L/v0 cos 0 . For the vertical motion we have 2 y = y0 + v0yt + ½ ayt ; 2 – h = 0 + (v0 sin 0)t + ½ (– g)t , so 2 h = – (v0 sin 0)(L/v0 cos 0) + ½ g(L/v0 cos 0) ; 2 2 2 2 1.5 m = – (20 m) tan 10° + ½ (9.80 m/s )(20 m) /v0 cos 10°, which gives v0 = 20 m/s (72 km/h).</p><p>56. An object at the equator is moving with the rotational speed of the surface of the Earth: 6 v = 2πrE/T = 2π(6.3810 m)/(86,400 s) = 464 m/s.
