<p> Family Immigration Research Project</p><p>Almost every one in the United States has come from somewhere. Whether it was from a different continent or just across the border, people have immigrated here for over 200 years.</p><p>Emma Lazarus’ Famous Poem</p><p>A poem by Emma Lazarus is graven on a tablet within the pedestal on which the statue stands.</p><p>The New Colossus</p><p>Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, With conquering limbs astride from land to land;</p><p>Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.</p><p>"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she With silent lips.</p><p>"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.</p><p>Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"</p><p>Your job is to find out your family history. You are to write a detailed report that explains where your ancestors came from and why. Include dates (if known), names, country of origin, and any stories that talk about your family’s immigration to the USA.</p><p>Please create (on WORD) a family tree including pictures (if you can find them) and dates for when they immigrated to the USA.</p>
