Study Island Steps

Study Island Steps

Grammar Remediation Instructions There are several different methods that you will be using to fill in the gaps in your grammar knowledge. It may be a bit overwhelming at first, but if you are patient, apply yourself diligently to the task, and ask the teacher when questions arise, you will soon realize that it isn’t nearly as complicated as it appears. Most of the sights that you will be visiting are divided into general categories; so several standards will be grouped together. For example, you will not be able to find a single lesson on capitalization and the personal pronoun “I.” You will find when you go to the website that all of the capitalization rules are grouped together, so you will be learning about both item #1 and item #15 at the same time. Below you will find instructions for two of the websites that are listed on my website. The other websites are easy to navigate, however if you have problems, please don’t hesitate to ask Mrs. Halim for help!

On the accountability chart, you will have specific grammatical content that you need to find an activity. WARNING: You will have access to the answers for some or all of these exercises. It is your job to use these to correct your answers. If you cheat and just fill in the answers, it will be obvious when you continue to miss the question on the test.

Grammar Bytes (chompchomp.com) At this website you will follow one of two paths: 1. Click on “Presentations.” Scroll down to find your topic, print out the handout, and open up the presentation. Watch the presentation until you finish the informational slides. Fill out the handout with your newfound knowledge. Upon completion of the worksheet, return to the PowerPoint presentation, finish the remainder of the slides and correct your answers using a red pen. 2. Click on “Exercises.” Scroll down to find your topic, print out the handout, and open up the interactive exercise. Read the information and fill out the handout as you go. Click on the answer and correct your answers using a red pen. Commnet (grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/) At this website you will click on “index” and then follow the path prescribed on your Accountability Chart. When you reach your destination, read the lesson provided. When you feel ready to access your knowledge, open the quiz and save it as a PDF. Take the quiz. Upon completion, go back to the answers and correct your work in red pen.

Additional Sites: grmr.me/pdg owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/section/1/5/ See Mrs. Halim’s Website for links to other Grammar sites If you are still struggling with the grammar definition/rule, refer to either your grammar textbook or another of the recommended sites to better understand the material.
