<p> ILLINOIS STATE UNIVERSITY</p><p>BOARD OF TRUSTEES</p><p>Resolution No. 2016.10/24 Watterson South Tower Interior Repainting</p><p>Resolution</p><p>Whereas, Watterson Towers, a residence hall owned and operated by Illinois State University, was constructed in 1967, and</p><p>Whereas, regular maintenance is required to keep the facility usable and desirable for student residents, and</p><p>Whereas, regular maintenance includes interior painting of student rooms, common suite areas, and student bathrooms, encompassing the primary living areas for the students:</p><p>Therefore, be it resolved that the Board of Trustees authorizes a capital project, establishment of budget, development of required designs and construction documents, advertisement, receipt and award of public bids and construction for the Watterson South Tower Interior Painting project. Therefore, be it further resolved that the Board of Trustees authorizes expenditures not to exceed $660,000 for the Watterson South Tower Interior Painting project.</p><p>Board Action on: Postpone: </p><p>Motion by: Amend: Second by: Disapprove: Vote: Yeas: Nays: Approve: </p><p>ATTEST: Board Action, October 28, 2016</p><p>______</p><p>Secretary/Chairperson</p><p>Board of Trustees of Illinois State University— Watterson South Tower Interior Repainting Page 2 10/28/2016 Board of Trustees Illinois State University Supplemental Information for the Watterson South Tower Interior Repainting Project</p><p>This item requests Board of Trustees approval to spend $660,000 to repaint the student living spaces in the Watterson South Tower.</p><p>Background – Watterson Towers houses approximately 2,200 student residents. The student living areas receive above average use and therefore require more frequent maintenance and attention. This repainting project is part of a plan to refresh the appearances of the student living areas for all residence halls on a rotating schedule. The scheduled maintenance of these areas helps to promote a sense of community, ownership and pride for the students and to support ongoing recruitment and retention efforts. The North Tower painting was completed this past summer.</p><p>Project Scope – The interior repainting of the South Tower of Watterson Towers involves primary student living areas only, including student rooms, common suite areas and student bathrooms. The work plan is to paint all five houses in the South Tower; Van Buren, Clay, Adams, Monroe, and Smith. Two houses are to be painted by ISU painting staff and three houses to be painted by independent contractors selected through the public procurement process. There are approximately 165,000 net assignable square feet of space in Watterson South Tower. </p><p>Project Schedule – The interior repainting of Watterson South Tower is planned to be completed over the summer break from May to August 2017.</p><p>Resource Requirements:</p><p>Construction $600,000 Contingency $60,000 Total Project Cost $660,000</p><p>Source of Funding: University/Housing Reserves</p><p>Board of Trustees of Illinois State University— Watterson South Tower Interior Repainting Page 3 10/28/2016</p>
