Jane Peabody 200 Riverway Box 0049, Boston, MA 02215 (617) 555-1234 [email protected] October 1, 2016

Sasha Miri Director Primrose School of Natick 296 North Main St. Natick, MA 01760

Dear Ms. Miri,

I am writing to apply for the Pre-K Teacher position I learned about during the Primrose School of Natick information session at Wheelock College. I will soon receive a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Wheelock where I developed a teaching philosophy focused on actively engaging children in the learning process. As an advocate for including life skill, music and character development activities within an early childhood setting, I would be a great fit for your new center and the Primrose Balanced Curriculum.

In my current placement in the Lemberg Children’s Center at Brandeis University, I am a supporting teacher for 20 students in a pre-K classroom. Using hands-on learning, songs, games and imaginary play, I encourage cognitive, social and emotional development that prepares children for kindergarten. With support and guidance, students begin to master math, science, social studies, creative arts and literacy skills at their own pace, building confidence and discovering that learning can be fun. Physical activity is also an important component of a child’s education, so I have incorporated structured and unstructured indoor and outdoor play opportunities into lessons.

The arts are a very interactive way to help children develop creativity, build fine and gross motor skills and express emotions. During my summers working at the YMCA Roxbury, we engaged pre-school aged children with instruments such as xylophones, conga drums and mini-keyboards to develop motor skills and coordination while having fun. We also took the children on field trips to places like the Museum of Fine Arts where they used finger painting to create art and express emotions. The children enjoyed these activities and were given a chance to showcase their talents at the end of the summer talent show where they sang, played instruments and displayed their artwork across the center.

I believe in the Primrose School of Natick’s philosophy of education for young children and would welcome the opportunity to become part of the teaching staff. I look forward to further discussing my qualifications during an interview.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Jane Peabody
