<p>From whatever angle you look at it, the Single Track ST 240 trail machine has to be what the “State-of- the-Art technology” award category was made for. Trail advocate Barrett Brown designed the ST 240 to solve problems in a commercially viable way and the Oregon Department of Forestry’s ST 240 has done that. We have hundreds of miles of great single track trail in the Tillamook State Forest, most of which are user-created routes that need minor reroutes in certain sections, or state of the art upgrades in others. Until now our only options were to obliterate the character of the trail with large equipment to get in and do that work, otherwise hand crews had been our other option and there was absolutely no way we could keep up with the workload going that route. With this 24” to 36” variable width machine I can safely sneak into tight technical trails between trees and rocks narrower than handle bars and bring the power of a five foot wide machine to the job while needing only a 24 inch wide trail tread. The industrial design approach and state of the art technology in the machine insures it holds up to the job, and the no-holds-barred thinking about what features are required to do this kind of work make what really was impossible, possible. Since trail users don’t have to worry about their trails disappearing along with the character of their sport, single track riders are now teammates and supporters and of ODF’s trail program instead of opponents. On top of that, because it’s full-time remote control I can do the job in a super low risk environment (not everyone would do it, but we even took the seat off.)
