Bonus Editor's Challenge - Chapter 10

Bonus Editor's Challenge - Chapter 12

The following memo contains 30 intentional errors in sentence structure, grammar, spelling, and proofreading. When you replace a wordy phrase with one word, it counts as one correction. When you correct a comma splice, run-on, or fragment, the correction counts as two errors. Delete these instructions when you print.

M E M O DATE: Current TO: Candace Daly, Vice President, Marketing FROM: Your Name, Exhibit Manager SUBJECT: Reducing a Major Expense at Trade Shows

At your suggestion, I’ve been searching for ways to reduce our trade show exhibition costs. One of our major expenses are the booth gift that we present to visitors.

At past trade shows, we have gave away a nine color silk screened T-shirt designed by a high priced designer, each shirt cost $15 to produce, which is to much. However, I’ve become acquainted to an Chinese supplier who can produce good looking T-shirts, and the cost is only $4 each. Beside saving money, we could also get faster delivery then from our other supplier. We could plan on saving at least $22,000, as showed here:

2,000 silk-screen T-shirts @ $15 $30,000 2,000 cheaper T-shirts @$4 8,000 SAVINGS $22,000

Please examine the enclosed T-shirt sample. You might expect a cheaper shirt to be less exceptable, but, as you can see, this shirt is quite presentable. What’s more, it advertises our name just as good as the more expensive silk screened T-shirts. We expect folks to wear this shirt when they work out, and the cheaper shirt serves that purpose just as effective as the most expensive shirt. I doubt that any one will think the cheap shirt is different than the more expensive one.

With increase travel costs and decrease trade show budgets, my team members and me have had to look careful at how we spend our limited funds for exhibitions. We have decrease the number of shows in which we participate, and we take less booth staffers. However, here is a significant way in which we can reduce a substantial expense and still draw visitors in to our booth.

To save $22,000 in exhibition costs, please authorize the purchase of 2,000 T-shirts for our next major trade show. If you agree to this plan before April 4, we can be sure of receiving a supply from our Chinese supplier for the September Las Vegas trade show. Enclosure
