<p> Deputy Press Secretary (Spanish speaking) – Houston Mayoral Race</p><p>The Sylvester Turner for Mayor Campaign is seeking a motivated, detail- oriented, and Spanish speaking Deputy Press Secretary to help elect current State Representative Sylvester Turner in the 2015 Houston mayoral contest. Houston is the 4th largest, and one of the fastest growing cities in the country, and this year has an open mayoral race. The election is non-partisan and will see a large field of candidates; ultimately, this will be the most competitive and important election in the 2015 election cycle.</p><p>Duties include: • Monitoring and distributing morning press clips, as well as sending clips throughout the day. • Assisting with drafting and distributing advisories, releases, statements. • Making press calls. • Managing and updating media lists. • Preparing talking points and briefing materials. • Doing advance for press events and staffing events. • Recording events on video camera, transcribing video and audio recordings. • Assisting the digital department with generating and pushing out content • Working with staff/candidate to schedule and prep media appearances.</p><p>This position requires: • Strong ability to write well and write quickly. • Fluency in Spanish – verbal and written • Excellent phone and “people” skills. • Strong organizational skills. • Ability to work under tight deadlines and under pressure. • Ability to work well with other campaign staff members • Optimistic, positive, “can do” attitude. • Working long campaign days, including weekends • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. • This position will report to the Communications Director and Campaign Manager.</p><p>The applicant must have: • Experience working either on a campaign, political committee, at a political communications firm, or on Capitol Hill. • Experience working on press/communications matters. • Comprehensive knowledge and ability to communicate in Spanish • Strong references. • College degree. • Strong consideration given to candidates with experience in social/digital media and knowledge of WordPress.</p><p>To apply, please email a resume and 3-5 references to [email protected] with the subject line “Deputy Press Secretary.”</p><p>The Sylvester Turner for Mayor Campaign is committed to diversity among its staff, and recognizes that its continued success requires the highest commitment to obtaining and retaining a diverse staff that provides the best quality services to supporters and constituents.
