Have you considered adopting a pet from an animal rescue? A good rescue provides you with a pet that has been vaccinated, treated for any medical problems and “fixed”. The rescue or foster home can tell you all about the pet’s nature, general likes and dislikes, habits and also any challenges. Rescue adoption is a great way to get a dog or cat that has a track record! Thanks for consider pet adoption! Judy Herndon, CCCC, Pittsboro Campus.

What’s a Manx cat?

The Manx cat is a breed that originated on the Isle of Man, off the coast of Great Britain. Although Manx can have tails of any length, they are the only breed that can be completely tailless. Manx are often called "men's cats" or "dog cats" because they have a strong desire to be with their people and will often follow you around the house "helping" with whatever you are doing. They are smart and many can be taught to fetch or walk on a leash. They are mellow, even-tempered cats; friendly and affectionate. They tend to be long-lived, and it's not unusual to find Manx in their 20's. Because the Manx gene is dominant, a cross between a Manx and a regular cat will usually produce a litter where half the kittens are tailless or bobtailed. In North Carolina, Manx tend to be small, with females maturing in the 6-8 pound range and males 7-9 pounds. This combined with their very large round eyes gives them a kitten-like look all their lives.

The featured adoption-ready Manx of this post is Vanna. She’s a real beauty!
