<p>TESOL Courses | Outcomes & Indicators May 2013</p><p>TESOL 200 Outcome 1 – Students will understand the evolution, research, and current practices of ENL research. Indicators – Exam and journal reports.</p><p>Outcome 2 – Students will understand and know how to identify differences in bilingual and ENL programs and approaches. Indicators – Exam and class activities. </p><p>Outcome 3 – Students will understand the processes of language acquisition and development and the role they play in learners’ educational experiences. Indicators – Exam.</p><p>Outcome 4 – Students will be able to modify lessons, textbooks, and other instructional materials to facilitate the linguistic and academic growth of learners. Indicators – Exam.</p><p>Outcome 5 – Students will know how to incorporate learners’ diverse cultural backgrounds into instructional planning. Indicators – Class discussion.</p><p>Outcome 6 – Students will create links with families and the community that promote language acquisition. Indicators – Teaching reflection.</p><p>Language 321 Outcome 1 – Students will learn and apply the conceptual principles and analytical framework for studying language. Indicators – Reading applications and problem sets.</p><p>Outcome 2 – Students will demonstrate knowledge of various aspects of English grammar. Indicators – Quizzes.</p><p>Outcome 3 – Students will show how the linguistic structure of English and their L2 compare and contrast. Indicators – Problem sets.</p><p>TESOL 377 Outcome 1 – Students will understand best practices for effective instruction. Indicators – Exams and classroom assignments.</p><p>Outcome 3 – Students will plan learning activities that will enable them to teach the significance of cultural differences and similarities. Indicators – Preparation of lesson plans, culture assimilators, and culture mini-dramas.</p><p>Outcome 4 – Students will understand the prominent teaching methodologies used in the profession. Indicators – Exams and classroom assignments.</p><p>TESOL 497 Outcome 1 – Students will use knowledge of content areas to establish instructional goals and design instruction to facilitate learning. Indicators – Learning journal, teaching reflections, and lesson plans.</p><p>Outcome 2 – Students will design and implement activities that promote observation, listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. Indicators – Learning journal, teaching reflections, and lesson plans.</p><p>Outcome 3 – Students will integrate language and content instruction that are appropriate to their learners’ stage of language acquisition. Indicators – Learning journal, teaching reflections, and lesson plans.</p><p>Outcome 4 – Students will use strategies and approaches that promote biliteracy and English language acquisition. Indicator: Learning journal, teaching reflections, and lesson plans.</p><p>Outcome 5 – Students will select, modify, create and use varied culturally and linguistically appropriate resources in the classroom. Indicators – Learning journal, teaching reflections, and lesson plans.</p><p>Outcome 6 – Students will understand how to incorporate learners’ diverse cultural backgrounds into instructional planning. Indicators – Learning journals and lesson plans.</p><p>Outcome 7 – Students will select and use assessments suited to the learners’ culture and linguistic skills.
