<p> 2nd 6 Weeks Vocab</p><p>Intro Week</p><p>Space = A place available for a particular purpose.</p><p>Environment = The sum total of all design elements, shapes the specific location of the narrative.</p><p>Element = A smaller, individual component of the overall design.</p><p>Plan = The sequence of events developed to facilitate multiple elements coming together.</p><p>Technology = The ways in which people provide themselves with the “stuff” of their culture</p><p>1</p><p>Wing space = The offstage side areas.</p><p>Sightlines = Imaginary lines that determine how much of the stage is visible from the audience.</p><p>Fly system = A system of pulleys and lines used to move objects into or out of the audience’s view (up or down).</p><p>Booth = The area of a theater where the lighting and sound operators generally run the show.</p><p>House = Where the audience sits </p><p>2 Raked Stage = The stage is set on an incline. The lowest part is generally closest to the audience with the highest part being away.</p><p>Trap = A section of the stage floor which allows passage up or down (usually hidden)</p><p>Wagon = A rolling platform on which scenic elements are placed.</p><p>Revolve = A stage which can be rotated to change the set.</p><p>Masking = A curtain or wall placed to hide anything behind it from the audience </p><p>3</p><p>Casters = Wheels bolted on to a scenic element enabling it to be rolled.</p><p>Cyc / cyclorama = Soft scenic element, furthest upstage, generally lit for sky effects or changing the background color.</p><p>Drop = Large soft scenic element, hung from a batten.</p><p>Scrim = A very light scenic material which both reflects and transmits light. </p><p>Spike = A mark to show where, and in what position, something moveable belongs on stage.</p><p>4 Legging = Bolting or screwing legs onto an item to elevate it.</p><p>Scabbing = Attaching two things together which are placed next to each other, sometimes by using small pieces of material.</p><p>Crew = A group of people organized to be responsible for the actual work of bringing the designers plans to completion.</p><p>Strike= The time after the run when all of the technical elements are taken apart and put away.</p><p>Deconstruction = The process of carefully taking all of the elements apart so that materials may be reused.</p><p>5</p><p>Skene = The permanent building at the back of the orchestra with three front entrances and one on either side in which actors changed costumes.</p><p>Secular = Non-religious in nature.</p><p>Perspective = A two dimensional artistic method used to create the illusion of depth.</p><p>Gaslight = Light produced by the combustion of flammable gas.</p><p>Style = A particular, distinctive, or characteristic form of construction or execution in any art or work.</p>
