The school hosted the Covington Chamber of Commerce’s monthly “Business Afterhours,” during which students and staff provided entertainment, provided tours of the weather station, and hosted presentations about the impact of weather on daily living.</p><p>Covington Elementary is proud of being a “Weather Bug/School Net site” on KING 5’s weather map. It is widely believed by those involved in bringing the weather monitoring station to Covington that the project put the city of Covington on the map back in 1999. </p><p>“Community partnerships are a big part of the success of the Kent School District,” said Chief Business Officer Dr. Richard Stedry. “As a weather station, Covington Elementary School serves the local city and the broader region with its connection to KING 5. More importantly, the students have direct access to hands-on science at a school with this honor.” </p><p>Covington’s City Manager Derek Matheson and Kent School District’s Chief Business Officer Dr. Richard Stedry were present, as well as city councilmembers and supporting businesses and organizations Re/Maxx, Alpine Mortgage Planning, Lakeside Industries, Communities in Schools of Kent, the Covington Library, John Jack Construction, American Family Insurance, and Clements General Construction.</p><p>More about the Kent School District: Kent School District is the fourth largest school district in Washington State and its most ethnically diverse district with well over 100 languages spoken. Its service area covers 75 square miles in South King County. It is a Microsoft International Demonstration Site, the only district in the world with the designation.
