I have been in contact with many of the Chapters and found a common concern with the Presidents and Road Captains. Their concern is over low participation in Chapter rides or having to cancel rides due to the excessive heat. Everyone is thinking this is happening to just their Chapter but the sad fact is, the same thing is happening all over the RGC. My home Chapter, TX XXI, is in the same boat; only there is no water to float the boat. The only thing I can suggest is “Keep the Faith”; things will be changing very soon. This especially goes out to the Road Captains who spend a lot of their time making sure you and your family have a safe and fun ride only to have to cancel all their work due to the heat. This is all done for your safety. Blue Knights please take time to tell your Road Captains how much you appreciate their work. It seems like the last three months I have been on the road going to conferences, visiting chapters, recruiting or on the phone doing the same things. From Sept 8 through Sept 13, I rode with several of our Chapter members to west Texas. We went to recruit, ride the Big Bend country and visit with TX 35 in San Angelo. Most of this trip was in the 80’s but the morning of the 13th, I asked the Chapter members to head home without me because I had to finish about a half day of work in San Angelo with TX 35. My wife Sandy was with me when we left San Angelo, en route back to Waxahachie around 1:00 PM. On this day the temperature was over 100 degrees and I got into serious trouble. About half way home, my chest start hurting and I knew I Page 1 of 13 1 was getting too hot. I felt like I was about to have a heat stroke. I pulled over at a rest area to get under a shade tree. Sandy got ice from the cooler and put it on my chest and head. An hour later I was back on the road and made it to Glen Rose, Texas. I did not know Sandy had called Karl Hubler, the Vice President of our Chapter. Karl had just made it home about two hours earlier from this trip. Karl and his wife, a nurse, met us in Glen Rose where Karl road my bike home and put me in their air-conditioned vehicle for the rest of the trip. I tell you this story to let you know the heat can put you down before you realize you are in trouble. Be careful out there! Several issues were discussed at the International Conference. Instead of going into a lot of detail in this report, the minutes of the July meeting in Chesapeake, VA have been sent to the Chapter Presidents for distribution to the membership. Also the agenda for the International meeting on Oct.12 has been sent to the Chapters. The first RGC regional meeting will be held in Corsicana, Texas on October 8th. The meeting is open to all Blue Knights to catch the Chapters up on what is going on in the RGC and International. It is a time for fellowship and exchange of ideas on what is working in the Chapters and what is not. 2012 will be a big year for the RGC. TX 13 of Waco is hosting the Rio Grande Conference and TX 34 of Tyler is hosting the International Conference. Both Chapters have been working very hard on their task so you and your family will have an enjoyable time. This is also an election year for the RGC. The election of the RGC Board will be held during the RGC meeting in Waco in May. I encourage anyone who is qualified for a position on the Board and wants the job to run for office. My schedule for working with the Blue Knights is full until late October but I would not change a thing. I am having too much fun. Since this is the last RGC newsletter of 2011, I would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas. I hope you get some time away from work to spend with your family. God bless you and your family, and always, Ride with Pride. Kenneth Reeves RGC Chairman, International Rep., President TX XXI 972-935-1491 ****************************************************************************** Vice-Chairman – Richard Cashell Greetings and Happy Autumn,

Fall is finally here bringing some needed relief from the heat and ushering some great riding weather. This is a wonderful time of the year for riding with the changing of the colors and the more moderate weather. There are a lot of festivals going on around our area. Texas XXI is hosting a regional gathering on October 8th in Ennis. Our Chairman is bringing the chuck wagon to show off his culinary skills. If you are able to attend, it promises to be a great time of food and fellowship. Let Ken know so he can fix enough food for all. Here in East Texas there are a number of motorcycle themed festivals, such as Boo Fest in Jefferson October 7-9 benefiting burn victims. Get out there and show everyone the greatest motorcycle club in the world. The International Conference in Virginia is past us and was an interesting experience, though we took our Texas weather with us. Planning is going full blast for International 2012 hosted here in Tyler. Texas XXXIV is really working hard to make the convention a success. We hope to have a large representation of our RGC brothers and sisters attending. Hotels are filling up quickly. There is the possibility that we will be adding two new chapters in South Texas in the coming months. Remember to invite prospective members on your rides. The best recruiting tool we have is when members share their passion for Blue Knights with other Officers who ride. Remember to ride Safe and Ride with Pride Richard Cashell Vice-Chairman Rio Grande Conference Page 2 of 13 2 ***************************************************************************** Secretary - Gary Keeter Well my fellow Blue Knights I will have to let our Chairman or Vice-Chairman tell you about International as I had to leave the first day of Blue Knights International with a death in the family. I hear some of our fellow Blue Knights are having a rough time from the fires in Texas lets keep them in our thoughts and prayers. A little News about RGC, RGC has 47 Chapters and 1520 members, renewal packets will be sent out soon so lets start getting the dues in and building our membership up. RGC elections are next year so let’s start thinking about whose wanting to run for a position on the RGC Executive Board. I am still getting e-mails back so let’s keep the RGC Secretary updated on any changes of Officers and e- mails. Some news about the RGC Traveler’s Pin there are a few members that only likes 1, 2 or 3 pictures to have their Pins. I know times are hard right now but when you are out riding don’t forget the camera, just riding around is a great stress reliever (at least it is for me). RGC Traveler’s Pin applications have dropped off dramatically. Some people have received their pins in an easy 2-day ride, some have taken a little longer but the idea is to get out and ride and meeting new people (someone may be a New Blue Knight that you sign up along the way). I will end now saying. Have a SAFE and Happy Holidays!!!! Ride Safe and Ride With Pride!!!!! Secretary Charlie Carty ***************************************************************************** Arkansas VIII – Wynne Greetings from Arkansas VIII I have a little catching up to do since this is the first article I have submitted. In April, Tim McMahon and I (Robert Holmes), attended the governors signing of the motorcycle awareness month for the state of Arkansas. We were the only two Blue knights there. In May, Arkansas VIII pulls security at the car show at Forrest City's spring fling. It was a good festival, with hot air balloons being in town Friday night. October 15th is the annual Arkansas fallen heroes memorial ride. Arkansas VIII will once again be escorting Gold Star family members from the Forrest City/Wynne area to the starting point in Hot Springs Village. We will be participating in the Forrest City and Wynne Christmas parades. We will also be helping once again with the St. Francis County elves program. Since this is the last newsletter for the year, I want to wish everyone a Safe and Happy Holidays. Bob Holmes, President Page 4 of 13 4 ***************************************************************************** Texas I- Hurst FINALLY! The long, hot summer days are over and the weather has become bearable again to ride a little bit. Unfortunately for me, I stayed inside too much and got fat and lazy – I don’t know if I wanna go riding’ now! NOT! I am very anxious to get back on the road and go eat and go see and go visit. I would imagine that everyone in the RGC is ready to get the cobwebs off of their scooters and let the wind blow threw their hair (?)! Texas #1 was not very active during the hot days of July and August but we did some get togethers. We continued to hold our monthly meetings and try to get folks together just to make sure they were still kicking! None of our group was able to make the International convention in Chesapeake, Virginia and it killed me to have to miss it. I was at the convention in 2003 there and Virginia V knows how to throw a party! I was looking forward to going further north to D.C. for more exploration of the monuments and museums and now the August earthquake has caused damage to some of them. Oh well, I guess I can head that way after the Tyler convention – Ha! The American Legion Hall where we hold our meetings started a Saturday morning buffet breakfast for $5.00 and we chose one Saturday when they had also scheduled a “bikini bike wash” to benefit one of their sponsored charities. Dang it was hot, but the breakfast was good and cheap and the bike needed washing anyway! (The girls were friendly too! Not to mention – scantly clad!) We talked about having a movie night at my former police association building and use their air-conditioning but we just couldn’t get enough people together at the same time to make it a worthwhile event. I think it had something to do with the heat getting there and not so much as the movie I had selected.

We did one ride that is always a good one in August and it was an evening ride. Turned out, the weather broke for this weekend event and it did not hit 100 degrees. The GWRRA Chapter “M” Moonlighters had an escorted ride at night through the back roads of Godley, Venus, Cresson, Granbury, Burleson, and other places I couldn’t figure out because it was dark! They negotiate a discounted midnight breakfast with IHOP in the parking where they hold their event and they have prizes for everyone who participates (if you’re lucky!) Some folks walked away with four or five prizes. Besides all of the gift certificates from local motorcycle shops and dealers, the special prize this year was an uncut sheet of two-dollar bills from the Ft. Worth Federal Bureau of Engraving (the money mint). I don’t know how much it cost them but I know they made a bundle from the raffle tickets sold for the giveaway. That was the first day in over two months I actually saw my Goldwing thermometer under 80 degrees. About 11 p.m. it showed 77 degrees. It felt gud !!!!!

Page 5 of 13 5 For our Labor Day weekend “Iron-Butt” ride, the plan was to make about a 1400 mile loop from D/FW Texas, south and eastward into Louisiana, visit the Tabasco factory at Avery Island, turn north toward Shreveport and head back to D/FW. It was going to be a joyous event and everyone was planning on winning all they could carry at the casinos along the way. However, the thing that wasn’t part of the planning was “Tropical Storm Lee!” Dang it again! The storm had to make landfall exactly where we were heading and would’ve blown us clean off the road if we hadn’t have canceled the trip. Good call by our President and trip leader! But the holiday weekend wasn’t totally shot. On Monday, Labor Day, part of the Louisiana group headed north to Oklahoma City, OK. and visited the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building memorial. This is the government building that was blown up by Timothy McVeigh in 1993 that killed 168 people, including children in the daycare center. The memorial is interesting as to the way it is laid out and the different areas that are designed for reflecting back on the tragedy. If you haven’t had a chance to visit the memorial, it’s worth the trip and only takes a couple of hours to see, depending on your interest. There is a lot of walking around the reflecting pond.

As this newsletter is being prepared, Texas #1 will be escorting the D/FW “Ride 4 Kids” to benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, October 2. Last year there were a record number of motorcycles (over 300) and the participants raised over $115,000. This year is expected to be bigger! We will assist with the parade style escort through several small cities in Tarrant, Dallas and Denton counties along with members of the Christian Motorcycle Association. This will be our fifth year (?) to do this event and our President always carries a brain tumor survivor child on the back of his three-wheeler for the parade. He is one of about 15 who take the kids along for the ride. It makes for good Blue Knight publicity. This year is also an election year for Texas #1. I don’t know about all of you other clubs but, if it is an election year for your club too, make sure that you contact Gary Keeter and/or Ken Reeves with the results of the elections so they can keep their records straight on who to contact for business issues and event planning with that club. Our current President’s wife, (the one who gets things done – and you men know what I’m talking about!) has already got our Christmas party/dinner planned. We will be celebrating the holidays with a full bar-b-que buffet with all of the trimmings and homemade desserts. We always have a big member turnout for the Christmas dinner because the club treasury usually pays for the meal – Thanks to everyone who buys our “Ladies of the Knights” patches and our plastic Blue Knights strips. Speaking of our strips – we had been out of the chrome lettered strips for several months due to our supply running out and our supplier passing away. I am glad to report that we now have a new vendor for the product and they are perfect! I can’t tell the difference in the new ones and the old ones. We were concerned but the new guy came through with flying “chrome” colors! Contact us if you or your club are interested in purchasing our goodies. You can go to our website and see the products now under the new “Sales Items” link. We pay the shipping costs with each order! That’s about it for this issue! We sincerely hope that everyone is safe and healthy – we are looking forward to seeing everyone in Waco for the 2012 RGC in May 2012, and we wish each and every one of you a Happy Thanksgiving, a very Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year! Don’t forget to recruit! Gene Fuqua, Secretary, BKTX#1

Page 6 of 13 6 (This may not be the appropriate time to bring it up but – my wife, Debbie, owns and operates a travel company in the D/FW area. We have talked to several people about having an RGC cruise or just a Blue Knights cruise from Galveston on Carnival or Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. I would like to know what other chapters and members think about doing something like this – just a little different! We have done charity cruises for Texas #21 and several other members have taken their personal vacations on cruises. Why not a full, blow-out Blue Knights cruise with three or four hundred of us on one ship!? You can contact me at [email protected] or contact my wife, Debbie, at 817-283-2461) Just a thought! ***************************************************************************** Texas VI – Angleson Texas chapter 6 is sponsoring our Blue Santa Ride on October 08. We will all be involved with the escort and helping with the festivities. Big John Ideus TX 6 Brazoria. ***************************************************************************** Texas XI – Lorena Hello from Central Texas (Waco). Hopefully October will bring us some nice weather. The last three months have been very hot. The month of August averaged 105 degrees daily. The weather is getting a little better and we are seeing more motorcycle traffic. Waco is hosting the 2012 Rio Grande Conference May 17-20, 2012. Please go to our website to download your registration form www.blueknightstexaschapterxi.com . We have received some registrations and the hotels reported they are getting reservations. The Clarion Hotel is the host hotel 1-800-275-9226. The other two hotels are within blocks of the host hotel, Americas Best Value Inn & Suites 1-254-754-1266 and Best Western Old Main Lodge 1-800-299-9226. Be sure to mention Blue Knights Rio Grande Conference when registering. We are still in the planning stages and will have more information in the January 2012 newsletter. Our email is [email protected] if you have any questions. Our prayers and thoughts go out to all the families who have lost their homes in the fires in Texas. Texas XI members participated in a fundraiser at the Marlin Police Department in September. They were raising funds to assist the families who had lost their homes. Jim Brock President, BK TX XI RIDE WITH PRIDE ***************************************************************************** Texas XXI - Waxahachie Hello to all of our Blue Knight Brothers and Sisters. Hope that all of you are staying cool and comfortable. Summer is most definitely all over us. Well here we are into the third quarter of the year already. And a very busy quarter it has been. Take a look at this… We started out the month of July with a very brand new event. Instead of conducting our regularly scheduled “Iron Butt Run”, in this troublesome heat, it was thought that a more relaxing and as enjoyable event might be developed, to attract an even larger body of participants, and one that might include non-members as well. Like the Iron Butt Run, the proceeds would all be donated to The Gingerbread House of Waxahachie, a Child Advocacy Center, and the charity of choice by the TX XXI Chapter. We named the event, “1st Annual TX XXI Golf Scramble”. With special thanks to our very own Bob ‘Rattler’ Adams, a Chapter Director, Road Captain, and now Golf Chairman. Bob was able to manage, oversee and develop this entire event into an absolute total success. Many, many hard and long hours went into the planning and development of this event. Ol’ Bob had some helpers along the way, but he was the primary motivation and driving force behind the event. So again, from the whole chapter, “Thank You Bob”. The event took place at the ‘Old Brickyard Golf Club in Ferris, Texas, on July the 11 th with an 8:30 shotgun start. We had 14 teams of four each registered to play. As part of the registration, the chapter provided a full and complete outdoor lunch for all involved. Of course this brought out our chapter President, and RGC Chairperson, Ken Reeves, to be the Master Cook and food preparer. As a result, everyone was filled to the brim Page 7 of 13 7 with some really good tasting food. So again, from all of us in the chapter, “Thank You Ken. AND THANK YOU SANDY!!! Thanks to them, and a good many helpers, we were all served up with some really great hamburgers, with all the trimmings, some good ol’ Ranch Beans, plenty of Peach and Cherry Cobblers, and nice cold Iced Tea. A good day of golf and fellowship is one thing, but throw in all the food & drink, and WOW! What a deal that turned out to be. Thanks again guys. Prizes you say? Did we have prizes? I’m here to tell ya, WE HAD PRIZES!!! And again, thank you Bob. We had trophies for 1st, 2nd , and 3rd place finishers, we gave out 3 ‘Closest to the Pin’ trophies on 3 par three holes, a trophy for the longest drive, PLUS, not one, not two, not three, but FOUR chances to win a Hole-in-One award. Those awards were a $500.00 gift certificate, a brand new set of Nike Ions, A new 57 inch color HD television set and lastly, a $20,000.00 Grand Cash Prize. Sadly however, there were no ‘Hole-in-One’ winners. Maybe next year guys. Some of the winners for the day were our own Garry ‘Grumpy’ Grisham who won one of the ‘Closest to the Pin’ awards. Rick Thomas and his group of Mr. Johnson and Mr. Washington won second place with a score of 54, or 16 under par. The first place finishers went to our very own Bob Adams with his team of Ron Adams, Larry Tyson, and Larry Rowe, with a final score of 52, or 18 under par. And the Grand Prize winner of the whole day was the Waxahachie Child Advocacy Centers, Gingerbread House, who received a total of $3,244.00 as our TX XXI donation from this really fun and enjoyable event. Bob wanted to spread his appreciation and give out a special Thank You to all of his many ‘helpers’ and the ‘sponsors’, for their hard work and contributions to making this ‘first time ever’ event into a truly great and memorable “Round of Golf”. Can’t wait for next years! On Saturday, September the 17th, TX XXI President Ken Reeves, and Road Captain Bob ‘Rattler’ Adams took advantage of the beautiful change in the Texas weather and headed down to Fort Chadbourn, Texas. Chadbourn being located between Abilene, and San Angelo, Texas. They said the weather there was in the mid to upper 80’s all weekend long. A real nice change. Ken and Bob were actually on a Good Will mission. They went down to help, assist and learn, with the West Texas Rehab Center, with their Chuck Wagon cooking on Saturday and Sunday. Ken stated “We learned an awful lot on how to cook for a couple hundred people each day and how to use the equipment that we now have”. The entertainment and food both nights were well worth going back for. Here are a few pictures of the event.

Lots of Good Food More Good Food

Page 8 of 13 8

Lots of Good Friends More Good Friends It is generally understood that with the extreme temperatures of this quarter, that a significant number of our chapter rides had to be cancelled. While such an action is regrettable, it was determined that safety should reign over our high desire to hit the road. Several of our chapter’s members have had some pretty scary moments when trying to ride with Mother Nature. Even our own Chapter President barely escaped being a victim of heat exhaustion. With the weather starting to become more Fall like. Our Road Captains are hard at work mapping out, planning for, and basically preparing us for a whole bunch of good runs for this coming three months. September 30th thru October 3rd will find a bunch of us headed out to Lawton OK again. This will be a repeat of an earlier ride, that turn out to be a tremendous success in which we were all able to tour the Ft. Sill Army Installation, and then the surrounding Native American Indian historic locations. It was a really GREAT history lesson for all concerned. On October the 8th we’ll be attending the RGC Regional Fall meeting in Ennis Texas. Ken says there should be some 16 or 17 Blue Knight Chapters represented at this afternoon luncheon/meeting. Maybe we’ll be seeing you there. Hope so. Then on October 14th, 15th, & 16th, we will be headed out in still another direction, to visit and take in the sights and brotherhood, in and around the Natchitoches, LA area. For those few of you who may not have seen the Blue Knight’s Pledge lately, pull it out and blow off the dust. It has a good message. We’ve gone to reciting it at the beginning of our meetings. Also feel free to visit our web page, at www.blueknightstx21.org. Particularly the “Calendar of Events” page. We’d love to have you come out and ride along with us. In closing, we wish you all Happy and Safe Riding, and as usual, “Ride with Pride”. Respectfully submitted, on behalf of the Members of Texas XXI, Ray Cram, Chapter Secretary ****************************************************************************** Texas XXXVIII – Plano Well here it is... finally a letter from Chapter 38. Chapter 38 was started here in Plano Texas, but our members are from all over the area. We have members from at least 5 other agencies to include, McKinney PD, Wylie PD, Addison PD, Lake Highlands PD, Murphy PD, Collin County Community College PD, and Richardson PD and we are hopeful that this new year we can add several more members from some of the other agencies around us. We really enjoy having a very diverse group of members. We are currently sitting at approx. 32 members and manage to have at least 10 -15 of them show up at our monthly meetings. We here at 38 have had a very good year and are looking forward to this cooler weather that is forth coming. We are currently going on a ride to Bandera Texas for a memorial ride down there on Saturday the 1st of October. Should be great riding weather down and back as there is a cold front moving down this weekend. I know like many others that I am very happy that the 100 degree days are behind us and that the fall weather makes for great riding.

Page 9 of 13 9 We also have several members going to Galveston again this year for the Lone Star Rally. We made our first trip last year and really had a great time. We look forward to seeing many of our brother chapters down there and visiting with you.
