<p>Today’s grammar lesson: Led vs. Lead vs. Lead</p><p>Definition: Lead (Present tense) Led (Past tense) Lead (Noun)</p><p>Grade Level: Grade 9 Applied. I have often observed confusion in the application of these words in applied and lower grade classes. It is my rationale to compose a grammatical section devoted to this topic because I have noticed this is a mistake that bleeds into later grades. By acting with prevention in mind, I can cauterize the mistake before it becomes a systemic issue. </p><p>Common Errors and Corrections: </p><p>The verb to lead is often confused when used in the past tense. Often lead is written as opposed to led. This is a common mistake because of the verb’s homonym lead—which is pronounced as led. </p><p>An archaeological team has lead (led) anthropologists to believe that a new species of human lived during the Pleistocene era. </p><p>We, as a nation, must not be afraid to led (lead) the world in peace-making.</p><p>The scientists lead (led) the parents to the led (lead) sheets—the scientists would not led (lead) the parents astray.</p><p>Activity:</p><p>1. As a scaffolding device to lay the foundation for the students, they will first be given a verb sheet (to lead) and a definition of the noun lead with a pictorial representation. 2. Once students have been given a definition, the conjunctions and have a visual understanding of the noun, students will have to read sentences and write in the proper form of lead. 3. Students will have the opportunity to form five of their own sentences using the selected homonyms.
