<p> HOME HEALTH AIDES Home health aides help patients who cannot live independently in their homes due to a medical condition. They track patient conditions and help them with daily activities. </p><p>What is the job market like? Most home health aides are employed by home care agencies and work in private homes. Some may work in adult homes or similar residential settings for persons with disabilities. This occupation is projected to grow by 48% in NYC through 2020, with 5,300 openings projected in the coming year. Starting in March 2014, the entry level wage is now $10/hr. What are the responsibilities? Helping clients in their daily personal tasks, such as bathing, dressing, shopping, feeding, and walking Doing light housekeeping, such as laundry, washing dishes, and vacuuming in a client’s home Organizing a client’s schedule, planning appointments, and paying bills Arranging transportation to doctors’ offices or for other kinds of outings Preparing meals in accordance with modified diets Transferring patients Monitoring a patient’s condition, including taking temperature and pulse</p><p>What makes a strong home health aide? Compassionate, patient, and sympathetic Good communication skills Mature and responsible Good physical health Proficient in English and basic reading, writing, and math Other requirements Must be 18 years of age or older Must be physically fit (able to bend, reach, crouch, and transfer more than 50 lbs on a regular basis) Must be able to work Monday – Friday & some weekends/holidays Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Reliable, energetic, self-motivated and well-organized Required to complete a criminal history, drug test, and physical Must possess two (2) personal references </p><p>HOME HEALTH AIDE TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM DETAILS Training Details Offered at no cost to the student Uses an enhanced and highly quality curriculum Three and a half weeks of full time training (8:45AM to 5:00PM, Monday through Friday) will take place at Queensborough Community College, Lehman College, or New York City College of Technology. 100% attendance and 100% punctuality required Training & Employment Process Step 1: Attend an Information Session at a Workforce1 Career Center & pre- screen with a Workforce1 Account Manager. Step 2: Interview with your potential employer in late December Step 3: If selected by the employer, begin a 3-1/2 week training HHA training that starts on February 9th or February 19th, 2015. Step 4: Upon successful completion of classroom training, certification as a Home Health Aide as well as specific agency's hiring requirements, be ready to begin working at a home care agency immediately. Acceptance into this program is competitive.
