Each student will maintain one binder in which they are to keep all notes, homework, class exercises, projects, quizzes and tests. Additionally, students are expected to complete with detailed explanations the assigned activities in the SpringBoard textbook (Springboard work will need to stay in textbook). Homework, class work, projects, and other assignments are to be completed and turned in on the due date specified. Late work will be accepted per school policy (students must attend Monday Make-up to complete missing assignments for up to 80% credit).

And always remember: “Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe…Be a Camel!”

REQUIRED DAILY MATERIALS  Springboard Textbook for Math course  Binder  Paper  Pencils  TI-30XA Calculator (4 function calculator)

GRADING POLICY Student progress will be assessed by various means including class assignments, homework, open- response questions, tests, quizzes, and projects. Students will receive mid-trimester progress reports and a grade at the end of each trimester. Each grade will be configured by using the following weights:

Assessments Test and Projects- 50% Quizzes 25% Homework/Class work- 25% SPRINGBOARD MATHEMATICS CONTENT OVERVIEW

The Number System  Know that there are numbers that are not rational, and approximate them by rational numbers. Expressions and Equations  Work with radicals and integer exponents.  Understand the connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations.  Analyze and solve linear equations and pairs of simultaneous linear equations.

Functions  Define, evaluate, and compare functions.  Use functions to model relationships between quantities.

Geometry  Understand congruence and similarity using physical models, transparencies, or geometry software.  Understand and apply the Pythagorean Theorem.  Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving volume of cylinders, cones, and spheres.  Statistics and Probability  Investigate patterns of association in bivariate data.

HOMEWORK POLICY The purpose of homework is to practice the skills learned in class. It is expected to be completed by the specified due date. All students are expected to put forth effort to complete the homework assignment. No late homework will be accepted unless it is completed in Monday Make-Up, as students are given approximately 3 to 4 days to complete each assignment. If students do not understand the homework assignment or a specific problem then they will not be penalized for not completing the assignment or problem if they write 2 to 3 sentences explaining what they did not understand about each problem. By writing down what they do not understand it shows that they put forth effort to complete the assignment and it helps the teacher help the student understand the concept! If students do not complete the homework assignment ( and do not write 2 to 3 sentences) because they forgot the assignment at school, lost the assignment, did not have time to do it, etcetera, then they will receive a zero on the assignment. If students do not complete homework consistently then they will be referred to administration.

Please sign and return no later than Friday August 16th, 2013

I, ______, along with my parent(s)/guardian(s) have read the syllabus for Mrs. Fischer’s math class and understand the procedures and expectations for the year.

Student Signature:______

Parent/Guardian Signature:______
