Hi Tech: Information and Software Technology

Name______Date______Class______

Project 5.3 The problem: Web Threads

You need to develop a website for a local clothing designer called Web Threads. The company’s designs are only available over the Internet, and customers need to be able to view the designs. Ordering information must also be included. It is expected that your site will include video clips showing the designs, and text and graphics to support the presentation of the information. Web Threads have allocated a budget of $20 000 for the project, but this must include the cost of your time, web hosting for the first year, and any purchases they need in order to maintain the site, for example, to access the orders sent through. As students (though extremely expert), your time can only be costed at $15 per hour. If you need to hire digital video cameras, it will cost you $100 per hour. Scanners and digital cameras will cost you $20 per hour. At some point, it may be cheaper for Web Threads to purchase, rather than hire. You must submit: • the website • a full budget and proposal for the design to be submitted to Web Threads when you tender for the job • ‘actual’ costing (showing a net profit or loss) • a database to link with the ordering system.
