(What have you learned about why he bought a mansion in West Egg? Why had he wanted Daisy to come to Nick’s house?)</p><p>2. What is Nick’s reaction to Gatsby’s offer of a business relationship? How does Nick explain his refusal? What different factors do you think may have entered into his decision?</p><p>3. How would you characterize Gatsby’s behavior before and during the meeting with Daisy? (At least three “states” are mentioned.)</p><p>4. At one point Nick comments that Gatsby’s “count of enchanted objects had diminished by one.” What events led Nick to make this observation? What can you think of besides the green light that might have been included in Gatsby’s “count of enchanted objects”?</p><p>5. Toward the end of the chapter Nick attempts to explain “the expression of bewilderment [that] had come back into Gatsby’s face.” What explanation does Nick give? Why, in his opinion, is Daisy not at fault? </p><p>6. How would you describe Daisy’s reactions to Gatsby? What aspects of Daisy (personal characteristics, family background, and the like) do you think were most important in the dream of her – the illusion – that for five years Gatsby had added to and stored “in his ghostly heart”?</p>
