The 19th National Party Congress was successfully held and China has entered a new era and embarked on a new journey with a new attitude. China’s philanthropy sector will be revitalized with new vitality and energy in the new era. 2017 was a year of rapid and healthy development of the philanthropy sector. Since the promulgation of the Charity Law, relevant policies have been introduced one after another, and the process of the legalization of the philanthropy sector has been further strengthened; With the social and economic development, the concept of philanthropy has been gradually deepened, large donations of enterprises and entrepreneurs and philanthropists have been continuously emerging, public donations have been increasing year by year, and more resources have entered the this fi eld; The number of people participating in 95 Philanthropy Week and 99 Philanthropy Day has become increasingly widespread. The development and application of mobile Internet technologies have enabled the “Internet + philanthropy” model to be widely accepted and participated by the public; participating in targeted poverty alleviation, targeted poverty CONTENT eradication, and responding to “The Belt and Road” has become a joint action of the entire society. Standing at a new starting point, the philanthropy sector has a long way to go. The philanthropic organizations should adapt to the requirements of the new era, strengthen internal governance, constantly innovate and change, and work together to build a new sectoral ecology that is more transparent, more standardized, more effi cient, and more creative. In 2017, China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation completed the change of the board of directors and positioned the annual work as “expanding infl uence and assisting to alleviate poverty”. In the face of opportunities and challenges, China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation was united as one and marched forward. It closely focused on the national poverty alleviation strategy and “The Belt and Road” to promote the effective implementation of the “one body, two wings” 01 Our 2017 strategy. We closely focused on the overall goals and main strategies for poverty alleviation, gave full play to their own advantages, carefully designed and organized the implementation of core brand projects, expanded the scale and infl uence of strategic projects, continued to carry out social advocacy activities, and promoted more social forces to participate in poverty alleviation. We continuously deepened internal business adjustments, improved organizational governance, 42 Auditing Report standardized institutional management, prevented and controlled institutional risks, and enhanced institutional capabilities. In the past year, we, under the leadership of the State Council Poverty Alleviation Offi ce and the guidance of department concerned, focused on targeted poverty alleviation and worked at project models with great care, deepening and expanding in such areas as poverty alleviation through livelihood, tourism, e-commerce, education, health, and disaster relief. We entered the village and households to provide farmers and people with microfi nance services; We 47 Our Partners rooted in the grassroots, discovering the value of the countryside, mobilizing the masses to participate, drawing on the wisdom of the masses and building beautiful countryside; We worked hard to help poor areas expand employment income channels, and established a communication platform between farmers and consumers through e-commerce; We strictly abided by our commitments and raised resources to focus on solving problems in rural left behind children, nutrition and health problems for children, and relief for serious illness of major family labor, and deepened one-on-one targeted poverty alleviation models; We went to the frontline of the disaster area to provide timely relief to the affected people. We actively responded to the “The Belt and Road” initiative, 49 Our Organization carefully planned international aid projects, disseminated China’s experience in poverty alleviation, told stories about poverty alleviation in China, and contributed to the creation of a community with a shared future for mankind. We have also continued to organize advocacy activities such as Great Walker, Unite the Force for Good, Donate One Yuan, “Love Knows No Borders” Bazaar, and industry forums for accurate poverty alleviation, which have helped to mobilize all sectors of the society to participate in poverty alleviation efforts. Thanks to the trust and support from all walks of life, China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation had donation revenue of RMB 580 million in 2017, which was the highest in history. The expenditure on philanthropic programs was RMB 470 million, benefi ting nearly 4.2 million people. The international projects involved Sudan, Ethiopia, Nepal, Myanmar, and Cambodia and other countries. The year of 2018 is the fi rst year to fully implement the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress, and we must conscientiously implement the requirements set out in the report of the 19th CPC National Congress to resolutely win the fi ght against poverty and mobilize the whole party and nationwide forces, stay true to the mission, keep the mission in mind, persist in implementing institutional culture of service, innovation, transparency, and tenacity, strive to increase transparency, enhance public credibility, expand infl uence, vigorously mobilize social forces, raise social resources for poverty alleviation, and build a donation platform for social participation in poverty alleviation, guide all sectors of society to participate in poverty alleviation with higher enthusiasm, in more diverse ways and more unobstructed channels!
