<p>Geography: Fortnightly Plan Teacher: Date: 15/10/12-26/10/12 Class level: Junior Infants</p><p>Content objective(s): The child should be enabled to Junior Infants> Human environments > Living in the local community >  begin to appreciate the need for shelter for a family  describe areas within the home  recognise that people live in homes  acquire some awareness of different types of homes in the locality</p><p> flat, cottage, house, caravan, trailer Development of skills/concepts/aspects/language functions Junior Infants > A sense of place and space > A sense of space  refer to or use simple locational terms beside, near, far away, next door, on my road, on my landing or floor, upstairs, downstairs Junior Infants > Maps, globes and graphical skills > Picturing places  make model buildings with bricks, Lego and other play materials Learning activities </p><p>- Talk and discussion: Focus: Importance of homes; What life would be like if we did not have a place to call home. Stimulus -‘The Three Little Pigs’ - Using the environment: Identifying different types of homes in locality e.g. semi-detached house. PowerPoint of various house types - identify similarities and differences. - Active learning: In groups of three, children construct one type of home and show the areas within it e.g. kitchen. - Recording and communicating: The children sketch their own homes and report back to the class on the type of house it is and areas within it. Linkage and integration English: Story/Oral Language/Drama: ‘The Three Little Pigs’ Language development: Locational terms (listed above) and terms for different homes (e.g. bungalow) and rooms (kitchen). Visual Arts: Construction Differentiation - Questioning: Children experiencing language difficulties will have an opportunity to discuss in pairs/with teacher. Assessment - Teacher questioning: Focus on different types of homes and descriptions of areas within the homes. - Teacher observation: Listen out for children’s correct use language terms – locational, home types, areas in the home - Teacher designed tasks and tests: Children sketch their homes – label home type and areas in it. Resources Storybook: ‘The Three Little Pigs’; PowerPoint: home types; Construction material/blocks.</p>
