GENERAL The Garmin GSL 71 is an optional control panel for the GDL 90 UAT datalink. It is certified under TSO C154. The GSL 71 controls the GDL 90 and provides the operational status of the GDL 90. The GSL 71 provides data to the GDL 90 for transmission via the UAT datalink. This data may include a Flight ID code, or other Rotorcraft status information including ADS-B position data. LIMITATIONS</p><p>2.1 GSL 71 UAT CONTROL PANEL 2.1.1 Operational Information displayed by the GSL 71/GDL 90 is limited to supplemental use. The GSL 71 and GDL 90 do not replace any required equipment.</p><p>When directed by Air Traffic Control (ATC) to turn “off” the ADS-B transmission, pilots should use the standby (SBY) button to stop ADS-B transmissions while airborne or on the surface. 2.1.2 User Manuals The manual or the information contained in the manual listed below (or later FAA-approved revisions), must be immediately available to the flight crew.  GSL 71 UAT Control Panel Pilot’s Guide…P/N 560-0410-00 Rev B 2.1.3 Power on Self Test The GSL 71 performs a self test when power is applied. If any of the GSL 71 tests fail, power off the GSL 71.</p><p>2.2 GDL 90 UAT DATALINK 2.2.1 Operational The UAT datalink is approved for Air Traffic Control (ATC) ADS-B Surveillance Services in the United States. For areas where ATC Surveillance Services are provided, the UAT equipment shall broadcast aircraft position, velocity, barometric altitude information, flight identification and/or a 4096 squawk code. UAT datalink is also used to receive Traffic Information Services-Broadcast (TIS-B) and Flight Information Services-Broadcast (FIS-B) information. To receive TIS-B and FIS-B information, a display will be needed. Not all areas of the United States have the capability to provide ATC services or TIS-B/FIS-B information on the UAT datalink. Refer to Notice to Airman for areas of coverage and operational applications, found on the FAA website: www.flyadsb.com.</p><p>3. EMERGENCY / ABNORMAL PROCEDURES</p><p>3.1 EMERGENCY PROCEDURES No change. Refer to approved Rotorcraft Flight Manual.</p><p>3.2 ABNORMAL PROCEDURES No change.
