<p> Western Washington University Communication Sciences and Disorders Course Syllabus CSD 552 Diagnostics Winter Quarter 2015 Instructor: Lesley Stephens</p><p>Course Description: CSD 552-The purpose of this course is for the student to integrate all of the assessment information into practice through bi-weekly diagnostic evaluations (DE) of both children and adults. Each DE will be supervised by department supervisors and faculty. The class will observe all DEs, discuss details of the evaluation process and aid in developing the recommendations that will be given to the client/family. </p><p>Specific CSD 552 Course Learning Outcomes (and related ASHA certification standards)</p><p> The student will be required to write complete, professional diagnostic reports- Standard IV B  The student will develop skills in collecting a case history, selecting and administering appropriate evaluation procedures, adapting procedures, making complete and accurate behavioral observations, developing diagnosis, making appropriate recommendations, completing administrative functions and making referrals- Standard IV G 1  The student will develop skills in communicating effectively, collaborating, counseling and professional behavior- Standard IV G-3  The student will learn and adhere to ASHA’s Code of Ethics- Standard IV G-3</p><p>Class Requirements: Each student is responsible for administering diagnostic evaluations according to the schedule that will be provided. A full diagnostic report will be required for each diagnostic evaluation completed. Attendance, active participation and discussion are required even when not conducting the evaluation. No laptops can be used in class.</p><p>Each student will be responsible for critiquing observed bi-weekly evaluations. A form will be provided in class. Staff and faculty who supervise evaluations may engage in discussion and require individual student participation during the observation component of the session. All students are required to attend each class even if not performing the diagnostic. Attendance is required. </p><p>Students will put together a “diagnostic materials notebook” to share with the class and to assist them throughout their careers. It is suggested that students start this notebook at the beginning of the quarter. </p><p>Diagnostic reports are due: Tuesday diagnostic report is due no later than Friday afternoon the same week Thursday diagnostic report is due no later than Monday afternoon the following week</p><p>1 Required Text (required for previous CSD 546 course) Shipley, K.G. and McAfee, J.G. (2009) Assessment in Speech-Language Pathology: A Resource Manual (4th edition) Delmar, Cengage Learning </p><p>Evaluations are scheduled from: Reports are due: 9:00 to 11:50 on Tuesdays No later than Friday afternoon, same week 8:00 to 10:50 on Thursdays No later than Monday afternoon, following week </p><p>The first class, a review class, will be on Tuesday January 6th from 10:00 until 11:30. The first student run evaluation is scheduled for Tuesday January 13th.</p><p>The final evaluation (March 5) will eventually be assigned by the clinic director and will still be a part of the required class attendance. If a diagnostic is cancelled during the quarter, it may be re-scheduled for this time. </p><p>The final class is Thursday, March 12th and will be from 8:30 to 11:30. This will be a pot-luck breakfast. Notebooks are due and are to be presented to the class.</p><p>January 8th Review of the class requirements, assignments for diagnostics.
