<p> Debate Club Membership Requirements 2007-2008</p><p>Congratulations for gaining eligibility for the Debate team.</p><p>1. In order to get credit for Debate participation, J.V. teams must participate in 3 tournaments yearly, which are held after school. 2. In order to get credit for Debate participation, Varsity teams must participate in 5 tournaments yearly, which are held during school hours but are excused absences. 3. Varsity members must attend a minimum of 3 J.V. tournaments. (Timers/Judges/ Mentors) 4. During the months of October and November, there will be a series of developmental meetings to help the J.V. teams prepare their plans. a. Varsity members will be responsible for helping the J.V. teams during these sessions. b. There will be a round-robin J.V. team helping session in which varsity members will go around helping each team. 5. J.V. teams will follow a varsity team to whom they have been assigned at the 1st Varsity Tournament to see how to present affirmative and negative arguments. 6. All J.V. teams must also participate in a NHRHS mock debate for practice purposes. a. Varsity members will judge the mock debates. b. All J.V. plans must be ready for the mock debates starting October 19th. 7. All Varsity plan concepts must be pre-approved by Mrs. Baumann or the team captains before the 1st tournament. 8. All debate members, judges, Varsity, and J.V. must attend all meetings. If there are any extenuating circumstances, speak to Mrs. Baumann ASAP. 9. All debate members must participate in the home tournaments. 10. Judges, debaters, and timers must inform Mrs. Baumann at least 5 days prior to the next tournament if you plan on attending a tournament. 11. All debate members must help with at least 2 Debate fundraisers. (Pizza, doughnut and bake sales) 12. All Debaters may keep individual speaker awards. Team awards recognize the entire Northern Highlands Debate program.
