Health Systems, Policy & Informatics MINUTES

MINUTES

Review of Goals with Small Group Activity: Ron Piscotty, Megan Harris, and Rhonda Schoville led the members in a small group activity to review revised RIG goals developed by a sub-committee process. Subcommittee will take feedback form the small group session and finalize RIG goals.

Nominations: Peggy McLaughlin accepted nominations from the floor for 2 chair-elects and student leads. The 2 chair-elects for the upcoming term are Rhonda Schoville (nominated by Ron Piscotty) and Jessica Caster. New student leads are needed since current student leads, Rachel Kay Eccles and Rhonda Schoville, will soon graduate and will remain as student leads until then. New student leads are: Martha Badger and Sarah Beman. Nominees were accepted and thanked for volunteering.

Awards Ceremony was hosted by Ron Piscotty and members of the Awards Subcommittee. Awards were given to: Jacinda Bunch, PhD - Dissertation/DNP Project Award; Jessica Castner, PhD – Junior Doctoral Award; and AkkeNeel Talsma, PhD – Distinguished Scholar Award.

Meeting concluded with discussion on strategies to implement our RIG goals. The following comments were made: Twitter is now used more often for communication. Perhaps we need a Twitter boot camp then we can tweet each other and promote our work. We can also disseminate research via Twitter. We can establish regular RIG meetings – such as monthly phone call where someone can present or quarterly phone calls. We can have a scholar or a student present to obtain feedback on their research or proposal. Emphasize collaboration and partnership in our first goal. Twitter blasts ideas vs. building community. Some members voiced the need to build communities and regular phone calls can build relationships.

There was an interest to disseminate novel methodologies and quarterly webinars were suggested. Or could start with webinars twice a year and then move to quarterly. There was a need for communication about activities of RIG members. Maybe Twitter could be used to announce when members publish or when funded.

The third goal addresses dissemination of information to change practice. A webinar could be used to disseminate since many members may not Twitter. We should also support at least one publication/year in our MNRS journal and volunteer to assist with peer review.

Meeting adjourned at 8:30 a.m.
