<p>(Requirements for the Letter of Intent to Apply for a Public School Charter)</p><p>STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION</p><p>ARKANSAS DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION</p><p>LETTER OF INTENT TO APPLY FOR A PUBLIC SCHOOL CHARTER</p><p>Applicant school districts for conversion charter schools or eligible entities for open- enrollment charter schools are required to send a “Letter of Intent to Apply for a Public School Charter” to the Arkansas Department of Education. The Letter of Intent, which is to consist of only one page, is to be received by the following office at the Department of Education no later than the close of the business day (4:30 p.m.) on November 1, 1999, in order for the application/petition to be considered by the State Board of Education at a later date:</p><p>Arkansas Department of Education Charter School Office 4 Capitol Mall, Room 404A Little Rock, AR 72201</p><p>The “Letter of Intent” is to include the following:</p><p>1. The name of the eligible entity which intends to petition for a charter; 2. Contact person’s name, full address, daytime telephone number, FAX number, and e-mail address (if applicable); 3. Whether the petition to be filed will be for an open-enrollment charter school or for an in-district conversion charter school; 4. IF an open-enrollment charter school, then list the Arkansas Congressional District Number in which the school is planned to be located; 5. IF an open-enrollment charter school, then give a description of the eligible entity which will be proposing the charter; 6. The name of the proposed charter school; 7. The location of the proposed charter school; 8. The grade levels of students to be served by the charter school; and 9. A one-paragraph description of the purpose or special emphasis of the proposed school.</p><p>The letter should be signed by the superintendent of the school district for a proposed conversion charter school or the contact person for a proposed open-enrollment charter school. </p>
