How often do you talk with students who think they are eligible for new loan limits just because they are now attending your school, even though they just got a loan last month at their former school? Explaining the concept of annual loan limits to a transfer student can be challenging, along with calculating the right loan period and amount when originating a new loan. Join us at this session as we explore the question of “when can I get more loan money after I switch schools” as it relates to both non-term and term-based institutions, and its importance to the 150% Direct Subsidized Loan Limit. 2) Consumer Disclosure Requirements for FAA’s</p><p>Presenter: Bruce Honer, Department of Education</p><p>Location: Tucson Room</p><p>This session will focus on the consumer disclosure requirements that have generated attention and questions over the last several years, such as the net price calculator and textbook disclosures, as well as a subset of disclosures that are commonly cited in program reviews. </p><p>2:15pm - 2:45 pm Afternoon Break – Conference Center Hallway Visit with Vendors – Flagstaff/Prescott Room</p><p>2:45pm - 4:00pm Break-out sessions</p><p>3) Challenging Negative Attitudes </p><p>Presenter: Kim Thomas, First Marblehead</p><p>Location: Phoenix Room</p><p>In any organization, school or office, when dealing with the public, you must use your opportune moments to create a connections. By ensuring you have the most positive outlook and using your most engaging qualities, particularly when dealing with students, not only will you make your customer satisfied but you’ll be a better professional. This presentation explores how to challenge individual negativity as well as how to protect you from the negativity of others in the office. We’ll look at behavioral models to use in coaching yourself and others in how to build optimistic responses to any given situations. We’ll learn how negative norms can become entrenched and use this knowledge to create a more positive working environment.</p><p>4) Working with Eligible Non-Citizens</p><p>Presenter: Bruce Honer, Department of Education</p><p>Location: Tucson Room</p><p>This session will cover the various immigration statuses of eligible non-citizens and their eligibility for Title IV aid. We’ll look at how to confirm eligibility, discuss DHS issues and some resolution options available.</p><p>4:00pm - 5:00 pm Break-out sessions</p><p>5) Gainful Employment</p><p>Presenter: Kevin Jensen, College of Western Idaho</p><p>Location: Phoenix Room</p><p>Negotiated rulemaking is complete and the US Department of Education is expected to release new rules/requirements soon. Join this session to hear the latest on Gainful Employment – Updates on where we are now, what could be changing and when, how the changes could affect our schools, what the sticking points are, and how you can help your school be prepared. 6) Student Loans and Credit: An Overview </p><p>Presenter: Carmen Dominguez, American Student Assistance/SALT</p><p>Location: Tucson Room</p><p>Borrowing student loans is a fact of life for many students. The use of credit cards often quickly follows. While these aren’t bad actions in and of themselves, understanding how borrowing impacts credit – and how credit impacts other areas of your financial life – is an often missed step in the process. Join this session as we walk through the basics of credit reports and scores – and how student loans and credit cards fit in to the credit picture.
