All are recipients of the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Scholarship Program and will participate in the conference entitled “Exploring the Power of Diversity Through Conversation.” </p><p>The conference will feature three nationally recognized speakers and consultants: Emily Ballance, a Licensed Professional Counselor who speaks on humor, communication and stress management; Brian Freeman, NC’s Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year and recipient of the 2003 National Education Association Foundation Teaching Excellence Award; and Deollo Johnson, consultant, professional speaker and author of “One Heart at a Time,” a new book on diversity, leadership, and motivation. Johnson will train facilitators in the process used for the conference.</p><p>Conference attendees will have an opportunity to enhance their awareness of differences and develop communication skills to effectively teach North Carolina’s increasingly diverse student population. The conference is a joint effort of the NC Teaching Fellows Commission, The NC Center for the Advancement of Teaching, the Public School Forum, and East Carolina University.</p><p>The NC Teaching Fellows Program is a scholarship program that awards $6500 per year for four years to 500 outstanding NC high school seniors.</p><p>For more information, contact Gladys Graves, Director of the NC Teaching Fellows Program at 781-6833 ext.107. </p>
