The Living wage supplement is not guaranteed and is subject to regular review by the Council, is non contractual and can be removed at any time.</p><p>Accountable to: Branch Librarian </p><p>Accountable for: None</p><p>Main Purpose of Post:</p><p>To deliver an efficient, effective and customer focused library service in line with Library Service and corporate policies and plans. </p><p>Duties of library assistants may vary according to the operational requirements of the individual libraries in which they are working but key responsibilities are: </p><p>Principal Responsibilities:</p><p>1. To undertake all duties required for the day to day operation of the library.</p><p>2. To process the issue, return and shelving of stock. 3. To answer general enquiries and provide information and guidance to customers, ensuring referral to other staff or specialists where appropriate. </p><p>4. To enrol new readers after checking eligibility for membership and renew the membership of existing readers. </p><p>5. To use the library management system to support the operation of all public and administrative work and to provide a basic level of ICT support to customers.</p><p>6. To carry out work relating to stock maintenance, circulation and requests.</p><p>7. To ensure a high standard of stock presentation.</p><p>8. To assist in the promotion and delivery of events and activities.</p><p>9. To carry out and record all financial transactions associated with the loan, hire and sale of materials.</p><p>10.To report faulty equipment and fittings to the Senior Library Assistant, ensuring the efficient operation of the library and the health and safety of staff and customers.</p><p>11.To ensure the security of library premises during opening hours, acting as key-holder if required. </p><p>12.To assist in the training of new and relief library assistant staff.</p><p>13.This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and is subject to a DBS Check. This position has a requirement for an Enhanced DBS Check, this position is classed as regulated activity under the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 as amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 and will be subject to a check to the list of those people barred from working with children.</p><p>14.Welsh language competency level – Very little or no knowledge of Welsh. No competency is required although a positive approach to the promotion of the Welsh language is essential.</p><p>15.To co-operate with their employer and follow health and safety advice and instructions.</p><p>16.To abide by the principles and practice of equality of opportunity as laid down in the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
