<p> Welcome to downtown Macon!</p><p>As a person new to Macon, I would like to introduce to some of downtown. Downtown has improved a lot over the past several years. This list probably is not complete, but will get you started.</p><p>Restaurants Several restaurants downtown are only open for lunch on weekdays, but there are an increasing number that stay open for dinner. Just check the hours before you go. Adriana’s – Italian café, casual but classy food Bear’s Den – awesome traditional Southern food Bear Foot Tavern – Cheap bar food; Lots of TVs so good for watching sports China Wok – mediocre Chinese City Market Café – soups, salads and sandwiches, good breakfast (even on Saturdays!); cash only Dolce Vita – Cheap and good food, some healthy options, also serves pizza Downtown Grill – somewhat fancy, somewhat casual (hiding in the alley) Greek Corner Deli – decent Greek food but often no AC H&H – meat and 3, famous hang out of the Allman Brothers Ingleside pizza – by campus, basic pizza and beer Jeneane’s – popular meat and 3 Jittery Joes – by campus, coffee and sandwiches, common place for meetings and classes Michael’s on Mulberry/Between the Bread – goes by the first name for dinner (somewhat fancy, nice an quiet), goes by the second for lunch (pretty casual), weird I know Lemongrass – Not very authentic but good Thai (there are a few authentic dishes) Margarita’s – by campus, basic Mexican, you will probably have a meeting here at some point Molly’s – a lunch place that is a little like eating at your grandma’s Nu Way – hot dogs so good even Oprah eats them Roasted Café & Lounge – New coffee and wine place with sandwiches Rookery – typical bar food, popular student hangout in the evenings; decent beer selection Satterfields – BBQ with a bigger menu than most (boiled peanuts!) Shelly’s Corner Café – simple sandwich shop Sid’s - soups, salads and sandwiches Tic Toc – pretty fancy, great martini bar Tokyo Alley – Not great Japanese food and sushi</p><p>Bars/Clubs Asylum – dance club BJ’s Billiards – pool, becoming a popular hang out different crowds Bottoms Up – Student club Club Element – dance club Dirty Iguana – large dance club; frequented by students Envy – dance club Grant’s Lounge – place the Allman Brothers got their start, check out the wall of fame, occasional like music Hummingbird – live music, great place to hang out, few students Midtown Key Club – jazz, may be members only Stores Anderson’s Jewlers Barnes House – fur and interesting gifts upstairs Bibb Music – instruments, repairs, sheet music, supplies Blair’s – discount furniture and random stuff store Golden Bough – books, used and new, has live music on Tuesday evenings, occasional readings and signings Joycine’s – jewelry and gift, Barbara and Kim will help you find anything to match any outfit Macon Fashions So Chi Gallery – art gallery, also has parties on a regular basis Willow Tree – natural health store Entertainment 567 – local music Armory Ballroom – rain location for Second Sundays, sometimes has movies or music Arts Exchange – artist studios open to the public on first Fridays Capital Theatre – second run movies, live music, serves pizza and beer Children’s Museum Douglas Theater – Macon film guild shows movies once a month, various live acts Georgia Hall of Fame Grand Opera House – symphony, traveling Broadway shows, historical Macon Arts – gallery with shop Sidney Lanier Cottage – monthly salons, poetry readings Theatre Macon – good local theatre, children’s camp and theatre too Tubman African American Museum Washington park – site of “Second Sundays” (free music) and the Soap Box Derby Services Banks – most common banks have a branch downtown Courthouse (location to get your car tags!) DMV – hidden at the end of Cherry street Kennedy Pharmacy Lawrence Mayer Florist Macon Bibb Citizen Advocacy Macon Health Club – a very basic gym with good pool (offers Mercer discount) Miracle Fabra Dry cleaning Paint Dept Post office Public Library Quick stop stores – several that have opened downtown Salons (William Alexander, Amanda Jane, plus several barbers and wig shops)</p><p>Other Farmer’s Market – Located on Mulberry between First and Second, open on Wednesday’s from 4:30 – 7:00, carries local beef, pork, milk, cheese, eggs, fruits, vegetables and other items Festivals! There are a number of big festivals downtown including Cherry Blossom and Bragg Jam</p>
