What Are the Benefits of Nominating a Project?

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of nominating a project? Nominating projects or companies can generate publicity and momentum for green building in your country and throughout the Asia Pacific region. It can provide recognition for businesses and projects that are setting new benchmarks, reward GBC members that are going the extra mile, and showcase best practice in your country. It also provides an opportunity to build relationships with government, industry, media and the community to support your country’s green building efforts.

Why should businesses or projects enter?  Raising their profile – Finalists and winners of the Awards will be profiled through WorldGBC’s global press work, social media and other communications activities.  Getting in front of the right people - Businesses and projects are judged by a group of renowned and highly influential figures in the green building industry.  Receiving recognition – The Awards are a chance to celebrate some of the most progressive businesses and projects in a hugely important region for the future of green building.

Who is the WorldGBC working with to present these Awards? WorldGBC is currently finalising which organisations it will be partnering with on the 2016 Awards. We will be in touch as soon as they are confirmed.

What are the categories? The Awards are divided into two categories: - The Business Leadership in Sustainability Award recognises companies which are truly integrating sustainability into their business models and contributing to the transition towards a sustainable built environment. These organisations understand that sustainability presents a long-term business opportunity, demonstrate sustainable practices within their internal and external operations, and show sustainability leadership within industry. - The Leadership in Sustainable Design and Performance Award recognises pioneering green building projects that deliver a range of benefits through a holistic approach to sustainability. These projects go beyond simply minimising their impact by considering factors that lead to positive outcomes for both the environment and for people. There are three sub categories under this award: residential, commercial and public. How do you nominate a project? You can download the nomination form from the IGBC / WorldGBC website: www.igbc.in / www.worldgbc.org/apnawards

How many nominations can a GBC make? A Green Building Council can submit up to four nominations in total – one for the Business Leadership in Sustainability Award, and three for the Leadership in Sustainable Design and Performance Award (because of its three sub categories).

Must the project be certified by a recognised green building rating system to be eligible? Yes. The projects which are submitting nominations from India must be certified by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).

How many nominations can an organisation make? There is no limit to the number of nominations that may be submitted.

What sorts of companies and projects should nominate? The awards criteria do not favour large or small enterprises – so all organizations have equal chances to win. The winning enterprise, regardless of size, is simply one which in the opinion of the judges, best meets the criteria.

Is there a cost to enter? Nominees from India must pay a small administration fee of INR 10,000 for each nomination, inclusive of service tax. This is payable directly to the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).

Who are the judges and what is the judging process? Nominees will be assessed to ensure they meet the judging criteria, and finalists will be publicly announced on 5 September 2016. This will give your GBC the opportunity to promote your finalists before the winners are announced at the end of September. An independent panel of high-profile judges will assess each finalist against the clear criteria, using a scorecard system.

In projects that are joint ventures between two parties, can either one of the joint venture parties submit the nomination, or must it be through the joint venture entity? Either party may submit the nomination, but the applicant must seek consensus on the final entity that will be the recipient of the award, should the application be successful. In this instance, two award certificates will be issued. When are the key dates for the Awards? - Nominations close - 15 June 2016 - Finalists announced - 5 September 2016 - Winners announced - 28 September 2016 (during India GBC’s Green Building Congress 2016 at Mumbai)

What will winners receive? The winners in both categories will receive an award certificate and media coverage.
