Please Read ALL These Guidelines Before Starting Work

Aberdeen And North East Beer Festival Worker Guidelines 1. General

* Please read ALL these guidelines before starting work. * Festival Organiser and Licensee: Richard Jones * Safety Advisor: Nick Marshall * Hall Manager: Mike Burton * Volunteer co-ordinator: Neil Andrew * Door Manager: George Howie * Treasurer: Lesley Thomson & Lin Sanderson * Products & Membership Manager: Bob Frost * Dispense Manager: Vince Hilton * Bar Managers: Eric Mills, Ron Buchan, Scott Wilson

* Please report to the Volunteer Co-ordinator when you start & finish working * You must sign in each day and hence agree to the safety rules in place * SAFETY: You have a responsibility for your own safety and the safety of others at all times * Act responsibly at all times * Familiarise yourself with the emergency code word colour system * YELLOW – an accident requiring First Aid treatment by the Red Cross. No further action required by volunteer staff. Example would be a punter falling over * ORANGE - an incident requiring intervention by the professional stewards from ShowSec. All serving will stop until the incident is resolved. Example would be a fight between two punters * RED - a criminal act requiring the Police to be called. An example would be a robbery * If a whistle sounds then stop work and get the ShowSec stewards to handle any trouble - that’s what they are paid to do * Report any problems with safety to the Safety Advisor * Report any hygiene problems to the Hall Managers * Refer any complaints from customers to one of the above named committee members * Familiarise yourself with the locations of the various Festival Facilities & Emergency Procedures before you start work – venue layout poster are displayed at the Membership area * FIRE EXITS: Ensure that you know where the Fire Exits are – see venue layout poster * As with all licensed premises in Scotland we operate the Challenge 25 policy. Checks will be made at the entry desk but if you feel/know anyone under 18 is in the venue inform the licensee immediately * In the event of fire, open the Fire Exit nearest to you and usher punters out firmly but politely. The ShowSec stewards are paid and are trained to handle any venue search and evacuation, leave it to them * Protective clothing - boots and gloves etc. must be worn when moving heavy objects like casks and scaffolding * You will be given a festival glass free of charge. This is yours to keep but it strongly recommended you use one of the older festival glasses – as allocated by the volunteer co-ordinator – as your glass to use whilst working. Return this older glass at the end of the day for cleaning and you will get a fresh glass at subsequent working sessions. You will need the current festival glass to gain free access if you “go punter” at other public sessions.

2. First Aid

* Red Cross are staffing the First Aid area on Thursday and Friday between 6pm-midnight only. Their room is diagonally opposite the main punter entrance at the north end of the hall behind the Ladbroke’s office. Make sure you know where that is – see the venue layout poster

Page: 1 of 2 Aberdeen And North East Beer Festival Worker Guidelines * CAMRA First Aid kit is kept at the Products desk * Bar workers must cover all cuts using the Blue band-aids provided * Inform Hall Manager immediately of any injury to punter or worker

3. Beer for volunteer workers

* Volunteers can drink in moderation for free (ABV less than 4.3%) while on-duty * Volunteer beer tokens are the yellow 2012 festival ones. Tickets are issued by the Volunteer co-ordinator at £1 per each hour worked. They are only intended to be spent while off-duty. * Anyone deemed the worse for drink will be asked to stop working and become a punter or in extreme cases asked to leave the venue * If you are not doing bar work and you go behind the bar to get yourself a drink then get in, get your beer and get well away from the serving area ASAP; please don’t stop for a chat it’s too busy & even if it isn’t it is disrespectful for any waiting customer

4. Beer Tokens

* One sheet of beer tokens is worth £2. This year the tokens are [COLOUR TBC]. Beer is sold at face-value and there are no cash sales at the bar at any time * Punters can only buy EXTRA TOKENS at the Members/Trades/Tokens area ONLY; not the admissions desk * Credit card & Switch payment facilities are available at the Products desk

 See separate sheet for bar worker guidelines

 See separate sheet for door worker guidelines

 See separate sheet for token sales & products/membership worker guidelines

Page: 2 of 2
