<p> BRAXTON COUNTY</p><p>BOARD OF EDUCATION</p><p>January 17, 2017</p><p>The Braxton County Board of Education met on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the Board </p><p>Office. The following members were present:</p><p>Jill Cooper, President Dave Hoover, Vice President Shane Brown Van Carr - Absent Brad Shingler </p><p>Jill Cooper called the regular meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.</p><p>Josh Wimmer led the Pledge of Allegiance.</p><p>Dave Hoover offered a non-denominational prayer.</p><p>The Board congratulated Marcy and Mickey Skeens on the birth of their new baby.</p><p>John Wimmer signed in as a delegation to request to speak in executive session regarding bus issues.</p><p>Dave Hoover moved to convene into executive session under 6-9A-4 (2)(A) to discuss personnel matters. Shane Brown seconded the motion. </p><p>Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.</p><p>The Board convened into executive session at 6:05 p.m.</p><p>Dave Hoover moved and Brad Shingler seconded to reconvene into regular session. </p><p>Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.</p><p>The Board reconvened into regular session at 6:55 p.m. </p><p>Shane Brown moved and Brad Shingler seconded to approve the Consent Agenda items (January 3, 2017 meeting minutes, payment of bills, budget transfers and supplements and release from Braxton County Schools to attend Gilmer County Schools). </p><p>Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.</p><p>Brad Shingler moved and Dave Hoover seconded to approve the following employment/ reassignment – Professional:</p><p>Jennifer Knowles – from 4th Grade Teacher to 5th Grade Teacher at Little Birch Elementary effective the beginning of the 2017-18 school year.</p><p>Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.</p><p>Brad Shingler moved and Shane Brown seconded to approve the following medical leave of absence – Professional:</p><p>Kayla Lynn – effective retroactive January 2, 2017 for 3 weeks.</p><p>Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.</p><p>Dave Hoover and Brad Shingler seconded to approve the following unpaid leave of absence:</p><p>Joseph McMillion – effective January 26, 27 and 30, 2017.</p><p>Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.</p><p>Shane Brown moved and Dave Hoover seconded to approve the following requests to have names removed from Substitute Teacher list effective January 17, 2017:</p><p>1. Lois Christine Bright 2. Charles Powell</p><p>Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.</p><p>Dave Hoover moved and Shane Brown seconded to approve the following determination of effective date – Professional:</p><p>Isaac Casto – LD/BD/MI/AU Teacher (Itinerant) at Burnsville Elementary effective January 24, 2017.</p><p>Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.</p><p>Brad Shingler moved and Dave Hoover seconded to approve the following resignation – </p><p>Service:</p><p>Maranda Vaughan – Accountant at BCHS effective retroactive January 10, 2017.</p><p>Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.</p><p>Brad Shingler moved and Shane Brown seconded to approve fundraisers for Flatwoods </p><p>Elementary, Little Birch Elementary and BCHS.</p><p>Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.</p><p>Brad Shingler moved and Shane Brown seconded to adjourn. </p><p>Vote: 4-0.
